Problem connecting to new Azure VM

Crud. I have carefully examined Azure and finally decided to make a VM and go forward from there. I figured I would mostly follow the tutorial at http://blogs.msdn.com/b/brunoterkaly/archive/2013/09/25/test.aspx. It seemed good and what I wanted. I just selected the OS image though, without the Visual Studio.
The whole point is you make a Virtual Machine and then select Connect on the Azure Portal. It automatically makes the Remote Desktop Connection to the Azure VM. After that you are connected to the machine and you can do your darndest to make whatever mistakes you desire and are capable of.
The problem is that it gave me the Message
"

1) Remote Access Not Enables.
2) Remote Computer is Off
3) Remote Computer is not available on network"

I didn't even get an opportunity to make any mistakes or otherwise screw it up!
I did configure the default endpoint. I restarted the server for good luck.
The VM is an A0 (Shared CPU) VM
This is Windows 7 Pro 64 bit

So what now? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Mike
