login failed for sqlserver

iam unable to login to sqlserver2005.
user name is sa .i didnot change password too.
the following error is shown when i click on connect

Connect to Server

Cannot connect to USER.

------------------------------
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Login failed for user sa;. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 18456)
...

windows authentication is also showing error as below:

give full error string.with Severity and State.

And what do you expect from us? We cannot possible know the sa password to your database.

Solution 1

control panel > Administrative Tools > services
Make sure SQL Server Service is running.

i coudnt find administrative tools in control panel.iam using windows 7what to do

click on start button

now in search files & folders textbox write
services.msc
press enter
