How to design database for Inventory Application in sqlserver

Hi,
I am new designing databases i don't know how to design database for inventory domain please help me how to do this and also give some references to improve my knowledge on how to design databases.Present i am maintaining data in excel now i want to move from excel to sqlserver.
my excel sheet contains the following columns:

Dept : some departments
Product: some products within this different products.
Size : sizes if products
Item # : Items
Vendor : venders
Location:
Starting Qty:
New Shipments:
Quanity used:
Ending Qty:
Responsibility:


The above fields are contains in excel sheet for month i.e we have maintain data for every month.
