get id of the selected item in autocomplete text box asp.net

Hello

as autocomplete extender of ajax is able to show item suggestions. that is perfect. but what i want is when i select an item from auto complete textbox it should fire an event and also i should be able to get id of the selected item. is it possible to do that. if not in ajax is there any other way to do that. please help
