We are undergraduates and planning to develop a fully fledged PC game(Tennis) in 8 months using MAYA and openGl. There are four of us. Is this possible. Also can anyone list any softwares that is simple to use.

Is it possible: Yes.
Google for OpenGL and MAYA for documentation and samples.

Quiet possible if you channel your energy and resources in proper direction.

These times instead of sticking only to PC games, you should try to port them to mobile/tablet devices also. Then only you will have nice financials (if you are targeting)

And of course this requires basics in OpenGL, physics and few other stuff
