what is the deference between online and offline project? desktop applications are online or offline?

plz help me...
Posted

In most cases online means the application is connected to an external data source of some kind, perhaps a database on a network server. Offline means the application is using a local data source, such as a cached version of a file or a local database. These apps generally have some method to synch data when changing for online to offline or vis versa.

It is not necessary that a desktop application is offline. Any application which require the resource which does not resides on the local machine will need to connect to the network that could be LAN/WAN/MAN or the Internet.

The LAN/WAN application is basically called as Intranet application those are online within its network and cannot be accessed from outside the network.

and Internet application can be accessed from anywhere if you have valid permission to access them.

The application which does not require any resource other than local computer are the offline project or application

Hope this helped you to bring you out of confusion...

Cheers!
