I had sql server 2008 r2 already installed on my machine. And I was using default server name i. e. "."
Now i installed sql server 2012 on my machine however not getting the instance of sql 2012 as whenever i open with server name "." , it opens 2008 instance of 2008.

Can i change the instance/server name for 2012 (after installation).
If yes then how and if no, then what to do?

Solution will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Yes, you can rename an already installed SQL Server instance.
Follow the instructions as described in the following link-
