How many times do you have to be told not to do any rendering by yourself. You've got to remember to leave that to the browser. If everybody was to do his/her own rendering there would be way to many incompatiblity issues.

Degraussing hasn't been documented yet in Wikipedia[^]. Seems not to work for everyone yet.

Nish and I were discussing how it gains a user many more points to answer questions over a week's time than it does do write an article during that same week, and that's basis for this suggestion.
How about awarding points for an article *view count*. Nish suggested 50-100 points for every 500 views accumulated. Of course, you'd probably have to not count views by the article's author (to keep said author from gaming the system)...

On the other hand, maybe 50 points would be a bit much... Maybe 20 points/500 views on articles, and 10 points per 500 views on tips/blogs.

And what happens why a spider gets stuck on the aritcle, like we have seen in the Q&A's?
You would have to cater for them also, and in the end it just creates an administrative nightmare i would have thought.

Spiders usually get at the better articles, and I don't think it's a common enough event to be worried about. CP also has blocks against spider-ing I am sure.

I don't think that will work (for the reason that bots are often used to browse the article pages, as cited by someone above). It would have to be restricted to a certain number of views per day, and/or views by logged-on users.

I am pretty sure that only a fractional percentage of views are from logged in members. Most people hit upon an article via Google/Bing, and they don;t bother signing up (unless they absolutely have to download the zip files).
So being logged in should not be a criteria. But there should be checks in place to only count one view per unique IP per day (for not logged in visitors). That would solve the bots/spidering issue.

I don't get it. Why not just recommend that the points for submitting an article be increased? Or do you & Nish have a "You view mine, and I'll view yours" thing going?

I'm not keen on this idea because it gives authors points regardless of the quality of the article. Add to that the blatant hole we'd open for abuse.
