I am not sure if this has been reported before, but just in case.
I was just replying to a post in The Lounge, in Hieroglyphics, but one slipped through.
The system caught the first c**k and the second but allowed the third one through.
The offending phrase:-
c**k bullock canoe c**k c**k cat ibis
So now I am confused, is it the length or the quantity that is causing the problem?

I think that some (mostly new) users don't get the Q/A thing.
There are many attempts at conversation by the OP adding answers to the question, rather than adding a comment on an answer. You don't get notification of these.
I would like to suggest a more prominent comment/"clarification request" button. I know there is also a warning on trying to answer your own question, so it's likely that you don't want to prevent users from answering their own.
This came up because I just found a few answers that I had made where the OP asked for additional details but I never saw them and therefore couldn't provide additional help.
Edit: I just had a look-over on the page...perhaps a 'follow question' option would work to solve this as well?

Yeah.. this has been a problem for a while. We have a task to redirect the author to edit their question when they attempt to add an answer. The edit page will have a notice describing what happened - i.e. that we'd like them to improve their question or add a comment rather than a new answer as feedback. They'll also have the option of creating an answer if they actually want to add a "real" answer.
What do you think? Do you have another specific suggestion?

We have a task that involves creating a subscription mechanism that will allow to essentially do this. It's on our plate but not currently one of our higher priorities.

Only to make it more painfully obvious.
For example, if you are the OP perhaps the paradigm should be flipped. Hide the big 'answer' area by default and expand the comment areas on the answers by default.
I think users are doing it because they're clicking the "big" buttons.

Ya know, it's hard to tell now! I'm approaching 300 answers (and I've read so much more) and it's become very natural. It's like typing and saying the word Zamboni until it no longer looks or sounds like a real word.
I've noticed little tweaks along the way, and yes, I would probably say that OPs are posting their responses more in the comments rather than answering their own questions...so I think it's definitely gone in the right direction.

I noticed that the Page Views for the Alternate Tips/Tricks stays 0.
Should it not increment with the page view counter when the main original tip page is displayed? (i.e. it won't have the same number as the original tip, as it could have been posted later, but when the original tip page is loaded, iterate each of the alternates and increment their specific counter).

I agree. There is no point in publishing an alternative if no one is ever going to look at it.

The alternate is displayed on the same page as the original tip/trick. How are you going to maintain a separate count under those conditions?

Like Dave said, give each alternative a view count, and assume the alternatives get read together with the original, ever since they exist. As it is now, the alternatives get listed on your articles summary page with a view count of zero, which is hardly accurate. I had already suggested not to show the view count for alternatives at all, but then Dave suggested the above, which I prefer.
