I don't mean this to come across as cold or non-caring, but Chris and his company aren't in the business of litigation. Like I stated in my previous post, contact authorities. You shouldn't feel scared or harrassed by any means. Don't worry about the others he called names. That's not your problem or concern. Address your problem and only yours.

I totally get what you are saying and I don't feel it was cold or anything like that. I'm just going to see what happens over the next few days. The individual in question has shown a lack of intelligence so I don't think he's going to quit his fry job and try to follow me. He doesn't even bother me on my own blog, because he's so desperate for an audience. But I will have my guard up.

I just wanted to make sure you didn't think my comments were cold and un-caring. I care, so I try to help.
I've read the individuals posts. Some seemed fine, others were way out there. Bigotry (opinions) is one thing (personal opinion and we're all entitled to it), but violence and/or intimidation is another.
Just don't think that keeping your guard up is good enough. You never know the extent of what some whack-o jobs will go through. That's why I feel that if you're keeping your guard up, you need to have some support if there's ever a problem. As you probably know, there's a big difference between having something documented and having nothing at all.

We've tried this with other chronic trouble makers. The threshhold is too high, and it doesn't accomplish anything that oneing doesn't lready.
You know, every time I tried to win a bar-bet about being able to count to 1000 using my fingers I always got punched out when I reached 4....

I'm sure it's like whack-a-mole. But how many moles can you possibly have? A few of those would be fun. But some thing tells me you have more than just a couple.

Mostly, when you see programmers, they aren't doing anything. One of the attractive things about programmers is that you cannot tell whether or not they are working simply by looking at them. Very often they're sitting there seemingly drinking coffee and gossiping, or just staring into space. There has been a worrying rise in the number of racial slurs appearing on CP lately, and extraordinarily not in the Soapbox. Worse yet, the cult of personality is clearly in effect as these comments are never stamped on or treated with the derision they deserve.
I've heard the "It's just my sense of humour" excuse, and this just doesn't cut the mustard: what we have here is plain, old-fashioned bigotry. It needs to be stopped.

It's probably meant with sincerity because what I've found is that many people who are inherently racist do not know this and think they are just being humorous. That's why they get mad and jump at you if you casually suggest that perhaps their joke wasn't really so funny and how it may have been a tad on the racist side.

Vote the messages as inappropriate and reply with a simple "that's inappropriate". If the behaviour continues I'll step in, but I would also like the community to self-police in a mature manner.

What follows next? No more jokes that depend on a punchline like "I wished for a chick with a big ass?" No more threads about overweight men? No more criticism of radical muslims when they become suicide bombers as an expression of religious freedom? And no use of language like "illegal aliens," right?
I agree sometimes the jokes are hurtful and sometimes it's legit to question whether the attempt to be humorous is only an excuse. But I don't see how Chris can spend all day making sure everything that's said doesn't offend anyone. Humor requires someone to be the butt of a joke. If you can laugh at a dumb blonde joke, you shouldn't cry at a dumb Pole joke.

It's the blatantly offensive comments such as "Offering a ham sandwich to a starving Muslim" and "[Is there] Intelligent life in India" I object to.
There is a world of difference between discussion and criticism on immigration, radicalised Islam, politics, religion etc. and those examples I gave above. The two are not in the slightest bit the same.

That's the kind of excuse the likes of Bernard Manning, Jim Davidson and Roy "Chubby" Brown used when they went on stage and talked about "Thieving Pakis" and "Stupid Blacks". Not in the slightest bit funny, and deeply offensive. You'll notice how the "someone" morphs into an entire race of people very easily.
