Hello,
Can we have an option to search article titles only?
|
|
|
|
|
We've added/removed that about a dozen times and finally settled on just "General Search".
Vote 1 if you want just "search title and content".
Vote 5 if you want "Option to allow searching just the Title"
cheers,

Would it be possible to change the date filter to either show all or none of a thread that straddles the time border? When the thread is chopped the result is an ugly confusing mess that looks like a bunch of broken threads. See Buzzword Hall of Shame, with a 3 month filter as an example.
Today's lesson is brought to you by the word "niggardly". Remember kids, don't attribute to racism what can be explained by Scandinavian language roots.

So what works best:
1. Show threads that have been started within 3 months
2. Show threads that have had a post within 3 months.

Chris,
As I have mentioned in the past, treat it as if it were a bookmark - set the date filter to all and display the marked message in highlight.

In View Thread mode that has been done. But in viewing all messages in all threads it gets choppy

2 by choice, but if 1's significantly simpler to implement I'd be happy with that as well.

Having some forums (subtle bugs, coding horrors, lounge, others??) not have the forum navigation links is still a usability fail since it precludes navigating directly to the next forum.

So it comes down to: when you are viewing the Lounge or the Soapbox are you more likely to want to then move to another forum or the articles? Are you in "I want to answer/ask questions" mode, or "I want to browse the site's main contents" mode?

The lounge, etc are part of my forum reading cycle, so my next destination is another forum. When I'm browsing articles I typically use a second tab anyway.

Hello,
Looking at page source of articles it's easy to see that it contains javascript code for Google Analytics. Is it possible to make the data collected by it available to article author? I believe it would be very interesting.
Thanks.

Breaking out the results on a per-article would be a nightmare.
What stats would you be interested in? (Don't say "everything")

Traffic Sources Overview and Map Overlay What about making this feature available to gold members only?

With 9,000 authors this is a little painful to do
We'll setup something automated.

How about allowing authors to enter their own analytics URL when they post articles? You just need to render it along with the article. I think that will be helpful.

I inquired about adding such functionality to my articles a while back, and Chris said that the privacy policies on the site do not allow individual users to add this functionality to their articles.

Hello,
As far as I know you have some plans to make an api for codeproject. What about exposing these data through the api to authors of the article only?
Also, download count for files. Google analytics also allows to track file downloads so what about using it instead of developing your own solution?
Thank you

All though I think this is a nice idea, I am not particularly fond of the fact that it seems to be mandatory for 1 and 2 votes, and is not aware of posts already made. Eventually I'll learn to remember a bout this and vote before I comment (so I can use this, and just change the post title by editing), but for now it is quite annoying, and causes my to leave dumb posts like "see below". I rarely low vote an article without leaving a post to explain why, and this seems overkill to deal with a few rude idiots. A "post already made" checkbox, in lieu of a programmatic check would be nice...

But this would allow people to circumvent actually making a post and hence would defeat the purpose.

True enough. Guess you'll just have to put up with a few duplicate posts from me, I'm a slow learner.

I'm placing the vote control inside the 'Add a message' page so you can hit two birds with one stone.

It's not very democratic to only expose low votes - it might cause some kind of psychological bias towards higher marks. You'll forgive me if I post low votes without providing a reason, right?

The voting system is meant to alert readers to the good stuff, and advise authors on where they need improvement. A vote with no message doesn't help an author. A vote and a 'this is why I voted bad' helps an author improve. A high vote is just a "Thanks - well done!" and doesn't really require a comment suggesting improvements.
