I had "Joe Carron" account a long time ago but now had to join as "Joe H Carron" it would not allow me to use Joe Carron so I had to join as Joe H Carron.
Seems I cannot find Joe Carron or use "Joe Carron" would like to use the original if possible?
Maybe someone else has the account?
To make matters worse I am not sure what email I originally used as Joe Carron. The correct and current email is what I currently use.

I'll send an email confirmation request to the email account on the CP account in question.

I am getting this error right now.
My email hasn't changed in years.
Where can I re-confirm and why do I need to re-confirm?

This happened to me a couple of years ago. I don't remember what I had to do: either I already got a confirmation e-mail sent, or I had to go on my profile's page to request for it.

That's the funny part. In my profile it is "confirmed" so I can not request another confirmation mail...

Ok. Problem solved.

If you clicked on a link in an email then it may have triggered a "Hey - we see you again" update so you're all good.
In the initial message there should have been a link to click. That would send an email, then clicking the link in the email would mark you present again.
We're being a bit cautious. Probably too cautious.

I can't post either comments or solutions. Has someone forgotten to feed the hamsters again?

As always, the problem that's been going on for several hours almost immediately resolves itself after reporting it here.

Yeah - sorry about that. We spent a distracting day cleaning out the database from the remnants of the spammers. The further we got along the faster things went and we're pretty much caught up now. During the scrubbing the database was a little distracted.
Sorry about the timing but the spammers aren't being as considerate as one would wish.

There is a password site called BugMeNot which provides login details for those who don;t want to set up a new account. And it shows quite a few CP login details: codeproject.com passwords - BugMeNot[^]
But ... StackOverflow is barred, so you can't post them there: stackoverflow.com passwords - BugMeNot[^]
Shouldn't CP be the same, given it fits the "Community" criteria in the same way as SO?
Quote: Sites should only appear blocked here if they match one or more of the following criteria:
Pay-per-view: users pay money to access the site
Community: users register only to add/change content (but not to view)
Fraud risk: user accounts contain sensitive details e.g. banks, online stores, etc

The "community" option on their removal form explicitly excludes sites where you have to register to "view or download attachments". IIRC, unregistered users can't download code from articles.

Yes, I know - but if SO can be excepted, shouldn't CP as well?
Until today I didn't even know they had an exceptions list!

I guess their argument would be that you don't have to sign in to SO to download anything.

Personally I'm not fussed if people choose to refer to a list of accounts that are not even vaguely reliable. BugMeNot would do a better service if they actually removed the listings that were bogus.

Please, oh most Honorable Hamsters, can we have a message at the top of the bugs'n'sugs page outlining how to navigate to delete an account? It would save a bit of grief for both those who want to leave and those of us that have to point the way.
Cheers,

You're assuming that those who want to leave would read the message.

Yes, probably a vain hope, since they cannot find (or read) their own account page.

Now the account page is not that intuitive and I can feel with the members having problems to find the relevant section.

You are right. Maybe the "Close My Account" part would be better on the main page.

Does it really need to be that obvious? Have you ever tried to find it on FarceBook, or Twatter, or even SO?

Well ... yes, for the people who are not bright enough even to find their own account page. And, no, for those who are super intelligent; like um ...
