I am a C/C++ programmer and have experience in other languages but I recently began working with Python for a class I am taking. I really like it. It is neat, concise, and rather powerful. I'd like to see something devoted to Python such as a message/discussion board. I currently use IronPython 2.7 with VS integration, which is OpenSource by the way. Are there any other Python enthusiasts out there? (edited) I am such a jackass I never noticed there was a forum already. Thanks anyway.

I played with Python several versions ago, just before they did the complete re-write.
It is very powerful but I, regrettably, have no need for it at the moment.
It's on my, steadily growing, list of things to get round to.

I've been meaning to learn Python and kept putting it off until I finally jumped in. I watched the MIT OpenCourseware Lectures from course 6.00--Intro to Comp Science. I have no real use for it besides just for play but I do enjoy it.

Python programmers are being lumped in with VB programmers right now. Use that forum.
(Just kidding. Don't do that - the VB programmers' little heads will explode.)

Sit back and enjoy the show, John...

Python is so simple even a VB programmer can use it

Would it be possible to have "Next Bookmark / Prev Bookmark" buttons on each forum, that act like the same buttons in VS?

You can't have that AND article download metrics, too. You have to pick one.

Yep, sure can. Tuesday was twofer day; suggestions and rep points doubled all day long.

Interesting. Possible but not sure how practical given the DB requirements.
I'll add it to the Think Hard About This One list.

I think this would be really helpful, given how fast messages scroll off the first page in some of the forums. I would rank it right after the downloads count.

Hey, is it possible to view the number of downloads that an attached file(like the source code) on an article has?
It seems strange that you can view page view count but not that.
Strive to be humble enough to take advice, and confident enough to do something about it.

In my opinion this would be a great feature. One addition/question to the suggestion: should download counts include only downloads or could viewing the source also be counted?

Just downloads.

Nope. Not currently possible, but we have been pestering the CP gods to allow it.

I already owe this to Hans, and he's been incredibly patient with us while we try to get this done.
I was actually hoping to start trawling the data and populating the database this week but our IT guys whose help I will need in juggling servers popped an appendix last week and is out for 2 weeks.

Thanks for the info!
So there will be historical information, not just download counts from when this gets implemented?
|
|
|
|

CP has over a decade of server logs to trawl. Almost all updates include historical back to the founding (or at least to the start of the current user account system).

Cool. CPAM is already ready to start scraping this data if you use the assumed label of "Downloads" on the user's My Articles page.

Only a minor injury... A little tape and lots of painkillers and he'll be as good as new...
But seriously, I love this concept and think it would be an awesome statistic to have available.
(and my best wishes to your "IT guys".)

Just got an email and evidently the drugs he's on are areeing with him rather too well.
It could be a while.
And then we'll have the cold-turkey shakes to deal with.

Were you planning on displaying the number of downloads on both the member's article list page and on the article page?

Hello!
I've been a user of codeproject ever since it was founded and am very happy with the resources this site offers.
Pleasantries aside, I have a problem with receiving the daily news (the Insider). I've had a yahoo account setup as my default email address for my code project accnt and have recently changed that email to a gmail account. Even I though I am still subscribed to the Insider I don't receive any emails from codeproject, neither in the inbox, nor in the spam folder.
Pls help.
Thanks,
Piotr
