I get that other sites can have such awful (and intrusive) ads that you are compelled to use an ad-blocker, but we spend an awful lot of time trying to ensure ads on CodeProject are sensible and safe. Using an adblocker directly affects our ability to pay for our servers and bandwidth.
With regards to links to the competition, we're doing a lot of experimentation with our contests and contest system and we need to know how we're going. Where are people clicking? What's the most effective way to let people know about a contest? What works, what doesn't. For the tracking we're using DFP (Google's ad technology which we've bent to our will) because it allows us to integrate everything in one place: homepage, ads, email mentions, everything.
So our options are: write a tracking system from scratch to work around those who use ad-blockers, or use a solid, reliable, tamper-proof system that is unobtrusive and works for the majority of people.
I have to admit that sinking resources into a system that will help those who have chosen to actively avoid helping us pay the bills is a tough call to make. I mean no offense in this, but we need to put our resources into those things that will (a) help the community, and (b) help keep is going.
cheers

CodeProject is whitelisted in my adblocker, for the reason you mentioned. But the banner directly goes to doubleclick.net and once I'm on that domain, uBlock Origin jumps in.
And when someone visits the site using an adblocker but does not whitelist CP, they won't get to see the challenge banner at all. I wonder if the number of eyes that have seen the banner would rise if it would be made a direct link.
The quick brown ProgramFOX jumps right over the Lazy<Dog> .

Greetings,
Would it be possible to implement vi-ish keyboard shortcuts for navigating and reading forums? Something similar to Gmail could be cool.
Thanks for reading,
Larry

Did you see this line at the bottom of every forum?
Use Ctrl+Left/Right to switch messages, Ctrl+Up/Down to switch threads, Ctrl+Shift+Left/Right to switch pages. (or have I completely misunderstood your question?)

Hello. I did, indeed, miss those shortcuts. Thanks for pointing them out.
They look like they will somewhat help.

Anything particular you'd like to see?

Hello Chris,
I was originally thinking of something similar to how gmail uses the vi-ish navigation keys. BUT, that was before I was enlightened about the Ctrl-Arrow navigation already in place on the forums.
Thanks and have a good day,
Larry

I use Chrome. I am not going to switch to internet explorer just to log in to the CodeProject site. However, using Chrome the login page does not show the Username or Password fields for me. In order to report this bug I needed to open Internet Explorer and log in there.
Also, I just tried to paste an image that shows this problem into this message, as suggested just below the Message window ("Images may be pasted into messages from the clipboard.") and it does not work.

works fine for me. the latest version of chrome.
What version are you using?

I assume you're using an ad-blocker such as uBlock?
We've seen this before: AdBlockers don't just remove our ability to pay for our servers and bandwidth, they actively remove elements from the websites hampering your ability to interact. It's a little, let's say, frustrating.
Maybe try whitelisting us or disabling the blocker to test.

I have un-followed the same person twice now and the changes are not saving. Could this be a different web/db server issue, data saving propagation issue?
Everything looked correct yesterday, but today, the person and all of their articles are back on my home page.
Email me if you need the person's ID.
-- Thanks
Edit: Well web06-2016 looks fine now. I will update with the web server name that does not look fine when it happens again. This is looking like data is not saving to all your web server instances, or something, I don't know. I am probably very wrong with that theory.
Edit 10.25.2018: web 05-2016 is still showing an article on the front page that I unfollowed yesterday when on web06-2016. I don't think the data changes on one server is propagating to the other servers, or something like that.

The Follow system isn't based on individual webservers, it's based on our follow servers (we have 2 of them). There's a chance they are out of sync. I'll check Monday morning.
Out of interest, what are you following? Specific members, competitions, tags, sections, chapters or individual articles? A given article could pop into your timeline for several different reasons.

Following specific members and following articles, is what I usually "follow". I haven't really used the system a whole lot, but plan on doing so more, here shortly.

Given this week's survey question: "What are the most important factors you look for in a co-worker?"
Next week's should be:
What are the most important factors you look for in a manager?
Minor tweak of response choices:
Their ability to facilitate your work
Their intelligence, or at least common sense and conversation
Their lack of any annoying habits. An invisible manager is a good manager
There ability to accept responsibility for mistakes
Their sense of humour
Their reliability, competency and work ethic
Someone who'll help me hide the bodies
Other (please comment)

Few to add:
- The ability not to blame you for someone else mistakes.
- The ability to understand existing system quickly when they are new in the team.***
- The ability to work with an inclusive team without excluding a few team members. [This is disgusting behavior but I seen it]

This article Getting Started with iPhone and iOS Development[^] has attracted more than it's share of spammers, and needs a tidy up. But when I try to delete the closed messages, they are all going to "message removed".
Could an admin wield a quick hoover round the forum, perhaps a mild dusting, spray some polish in the air? Cheers!

Hi,
I've been on holidays in Canada and Scotland for a month and am now back in Australia. I just realised that the usual emails (Daily Build and News) stopped around 27 September. I recall receiving a notification that I had to give some new permission due to government regulation change. When I clicked it said that I was already OK.
I have checked my settings and I can find nothing which would stop the emails.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Ian Maurer

Hey Ian
Your account looks fine from this end. We had some slowness in the emails late last week so if the issue is still happening let me know and I'll dig in further.

Hi Chris. I had twiddled a couple of settings and saved my profile yesterday. So whether through that or your intervention the good news is that the emails (and your subtitle humour) are now flowing again!
Thanks, Ian
p.s. Totally off topic, but if any of your readers also sing in choirs they might like to know that my humorous choral piece "A Choral Menagerie" went down well with the audiences on our recent Canadian tour. It can be found on the SheetMusicPlus website.

Hey there,
just wanted to vote on an article and I got again the message that I need to confirm my email address.
This happens like every 3-4 weeks to me.
Can you lookup if there's something wrong in the database with my account please?
It seems, my confirmation is not registered.
Thanks, cheers, Mike
