How to connect to wifi network through java code?

hey friends.
i am new to java. i want to connect to a wifi network but could not figure out how do i do it. i mean which API is used to do this. i googled it but got results only for android(so confused).
Could anybody please tell me how to achieve the task. any tutorials or example link will be appreciated

This is an OS level operation and should have been performed before the user runs your application. So are you talking about listing all the available wifi hotspots and attempting to connect to one or just opening a socket that happens to be wifi ?
