i need help downloading youtube videos. also converting them to a form that can be read by windows media player or quicktime. i have looked online and all the tutorials are either outdated or not working

Trouble is, if you don't tell us what you have already tried you are likely to just get the same answers. Try posting code that you tried that didn't work and see if we can help solve the problem

Use FireFox, go to Add-ons, search for youtube... the first 300 ish result download youtube videos.

That's correct. It looks like Youtube changed the algorithms of delivering content several times, because there are many downloading recipes around which don't actually work. It's hard to say if it was done to created hassles for downloading or any other reasons.
At the same time, it is obvious that downloading is always possible, because if the content is delivered, it is already on the client side and can be recorded. If you use any kind of HTTP monitor/spy software (such as HTTPFox for Mozilla or Chrome HTTP monitor), you can easily find HTTP requests and responses with real media content.

YouTube keeps changing things to prevent you from doing what you want.

Read the Terms Of Service and you'll find that what you want to do is illegal and YouTube has every right to come after you for any damages, including copyright violations.

You're not going to get any help with this as we're also not going to be party to you getting sued.
