Tabpage's control initialization problem

I have a win form application in vb.net in which i have a tab with eight tabpages.for the first time when the form is loaded all controls in each tabpage are populated from the database.
The actual problem is that textbox value of tabpage 1 is showing empty when i want to show the text in a messagebox after loading the form event that the textbox has value.
it only works when i click that tabpage other wise not.
