how to generate reports in vb .net through excel file from sql-server?

Hi,

I am a bit confuse with how to generate reports in vb .net through excel file from sql-server, and not with the usual crystal report but has some same feature as with customizing it.

So I am trying to work with making report that you can choose the fields that you want to show in excel, afterwards when download button is click the data will now be on excel file.

I know this can be done in web application (php,asp) would that be possible also in vb .net?

i've got a problem, they've used vs 2005 and im using 2008. i think it wouldn't apply the things i needed
