Hi,
we have sql 2000 installed on our server(with win server 2003) ,and in sql we have databases which is working (with users and,...)
I know we can upgrade the sql version to 2008 ,but is this work needed to attach the db again ?

Is it necessary to set configuration for users and access again ?

what kind of risks this work can have?

I would very strongly suggest that create a copy of your database environment on a sandboxed server and try upgrading that before you touch your production server.

Not only can this can save you a world of pain by identifying any issues, but you will be able to determine how long your production server will be offline for, allowing you to schedule it properly.

This saved me a lot of head aches during the switch. Also a good backup/restore plan, if you blow it then you can go back.
