can use
return DateTime.Now;
no need to set date formate ,it will automatically take MM/dd/yyyy HH:mm:ss format and SQL also aceept it as well...

you can use cache rather than session...generate unique cache key for per user..i already implemented it when i was working with time & attendance management system where has more than Lakhes records...

When you read RF ID Card number from device then also take the datetime of same device,but your device should be connected with server so you can get exact time,then pass this date and time to sp.

Create datatable of your string data then you can easily convert it in to xml using writexml method.

go to your management studio where you connect your sql server instance,select your instance then before click on "connect", press "option>>" button ,you'll able to see connection properties ,set "connection timeout" is "0". might be your problem will solve.have you tried that?
