in each postback event you need to first bind the data to the grid and then you can select your item in the dropdown. Can you share your code of aspx page and aspx.cs page?

Whatever code you have written in the Search button to display the data that same code you need to write after setting the new page index. MadhuKK is absolutely right.You need to bind the gridview again.

If you remove this line 'context.Response.ContentType = "image/jpeg"' then also it will not show you the plain/html text. I also tried it.

I am not sure but MsgBox() is the function which you made to show the alert message OR MsbBox() is the private method at server side code to show the message like MessageBox in the windows application. Please add your MsgBox() code here in your question to get the better idea. Edit your question and add your MsgBox() code.

Why you search control from footer row?
Adding new row in the last line is not the footer row.
Can you provide your aspx page code?

If you have used any javascript or css to show the tab then you should aware of which properties will work in all the browser. Like if you have used <div> and you show it through javascript then it's visibility should be "block" to work in both browser but if you used "inline" then it may not show you. So please provide your code to invetigate the issue.

cmd.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure;
if cmd is Stored Procedure then how can you write inline query in command text?
First you decide you want to write SP or inline query.

reference to above code written by Hiren now you can add below logic to fetch the column name.
foreach (DataColumn column in dt.Columns)
{
Columns += column.ColumnName.ToString() + ",";
}
Columns = Columns.Substring(0, Columns.Length - 1);

you will get the e.NewEditIndex in the Edit Command[when you click on Edit button that same row number]
But if you want to set the edit command on custom row(the row which you want to edit) then you can set it the e.RowIndex in the RowDataBound event[you can set the edit functionality on perticular row which you want to edit without clicking on the Edit button]
