there is other methods available to achieve this....this sort of project is very low level programming which would take you a long time to learn...you mite aswell utilise something already around.

Agreeed with Mehdi....this should be changed using DNS Alias and should not be hardcoded into your project...and also uses of connectionstring in a configfile would solve the issue if the DNS name changed on the server.

Thanks for your reply...the code works great, i was wondering if your could possibly help me with an issue that i may be able apply the same working. But basically i have a listview with 2 colums. Directory name and size. In column 1 - folder name, i want to be able to put a directory location (ie. C:\Windows) and then in coum 2 - size - determine the size of the directory including sub folders.

if you could point me in the right direction or help rewrite the above code to work... i appericate all your help :)

As walt said CTRL+ALT+DEL is a low level Windows function.....the only possible way is the uses of Global Hooks...

i have read that timers are very unreliable for scheduling and timer purposes and that system.threading is a better method...but my vb.net skills are not best so my knowledge on implementing threading soo not too good....im have alook on MSDN now about system.thread but if you nay information of other references that could help me would be great :)

but would i still be able to achieve a count down timer using a timer control?

HiClose i understand what your asying, but on little issue is i dont want a datagrid to be display on the new form, on the new form i only want the textbox of the selected value in the previous which would contain the datagrid.
When you click the button click i want it to open only textboxs on the new form(Form-B)......with the values from the datagrid on the previous form (form-A)

i understand that the datatable automatically fills at load().

want i am looking at achieving is a seperate textbox that filters the "ClientID" field. soo basically a user can enter a client number if known and it fill then fill the other textbox fields relating to that client id, ie first name, last name, address, ect.

that make senses?
