And now that I think of it: are there any good markup languages? SGML is just too... too. RTF is a scary closet full of leftovers from various decades.

There is an almost easy solution to that. Firefox (and others) can install any version of their browser on any version of any Microsoft operating system. Microsoft artificially limits what browser goes with what operating system. You can't install IE 11 on Windows 2000, but you can install Firefox 29 on it.
There is valid argument for updating both browser version and operating system version, but tying the two together is entirely a Microsoft choice.

We are talking IE here. Microsoft have had a long, long time to ensure their browser is consistent with other browsers when it comes to development but they continue to release browsers that require special treatment.
The world is moving on with or without them.

Microsoft's Skype will eventually be able to translate voice calls between people. In an on-stage demo at the Code conference today, Microsoft's CEO Satya Nadella showed off Skype Translator, an upcoming version of the service that is capable of translating voice conversation in "near real-time" using technology developed by the company's Skype and Translator teams. With it, you can talk in your native language to another user who speaks a different language, and Microsoft will translate it to the other person. "Meanwhile, the poor Babel fish, by effectively removing all barriers to communication between different races and cultures, has caused more and bloodier wars than anything else in the history of creation."
