Visual Studio 2005 will create project as with Unicode Character set option by default. (the compilation error will resolve if you change the character set to Multibyte (if you can))
I recommend you to use type safe TCHAR alternatives like LPCTSTR, TCHAR, TCHAR* and other routines. and also user _tcsXXX functions for manipulating strings.
if you want to convert the a Unicode String to Multibyte, You can use MultiByteToWideChar API. See MSDN for Sample code.
Another thing is that CString's internal storage will change according to UNICODE definition of project. So use it accordingly.

I am at my wits' end with a program that I am currently working on, so I hope someone of you may have the ultimate bright idea that I'm looking for...
I am writing a multi-threaded, dialog-based program in VC 6.0. This program runs a number of Ftp client communication sessions simultaneously as a sort of server. Since our clients communicate with a lot of different parties, based on Ftp, but each with their own particular methods, each of these communication channels is separately configurable.
The program works fine, but during testing, it turned out that it is gradually eating memory. Since it needs to be able to run infinately, this is a major issue. I took out one or two issues (like properly closing a CFileFind.FindFile and using _beginthread and _endthread in stead of CreateThread), but I'm pretty sure that at this moment each "new" is properly terminated with a "delete", so the idea is growing that this might have to do with memory fragmentation. I have now introduced a call to EmptyWorkingSet (hProcess) every hour. This does indeed reduce the used memory back to some 650K (from 7MB) and does seem to do the trick, however when the program is orderly terminated, WinMain throws an exception. In itself this is not so much of an issue since it only happens on termination, but it looks extremely unprofessional and might be an indication of something that could start bothering me later on...
My questions:
1. Does anyone have any really good ideas about finding possible memory leaks (or about solving memory fragmentation should this be the issue) I have been using all the standard tricks, but it does not really point me to specific elements that I might still have forgotten to delete
2. Can anyone shed any light on the usage of EmptyWorkingSet that might solve the exception problem

I know from experience that when I'm adding to a win32 project some .net components VS prompt me to convert from native to CLR-supported.

You can migrate to managed code in steps, or with C++, use mixed native and managed code.

hello all,
I have a simple project created by using Visual studio 2005(using MFC, complied in debug mode), it works at my computer, But it does not work another computer where not installed visual studio 2005, I know this is dlls issue,
But i want to know what dlls i should copy with the application(.exe file), or another way to do it?

You have to make a release version of your program and install vcredist_x86.exe on the target machine. It can be dowloaded here[^]. If you have the VC SP1, scroll down the page to get the version for the SP1.

 sorry, I didn't understand the question. If you want to run your application on the target machine, then you'll need to execute vcredist_x86 on it. This will install the C-runtime libraries and the MFC libraries.

I use Visual Studio 2005,
those dlls should be like these:
MFC80D.DLL
MFCN80D.DLL
MFCO80D.DLL
MSVCRTD.DLL
But, still not clear, Why should use always copy the dlls into system, my program is
like 0.4 mb, the dlls are about 10 mb
For the simple project, why should i hold the dlls

You could build the project using MFC in a static library instead of moving debug dlls. But this might also generate huge executable.
