Hi Guru's,
Let's say I have made a Question Dialog which has 2 buttons: a Yes and a No button. When a user clicks on the main form 'Delete file' button the question dialog is called like this: frmQuestionDialog.show vbmodal.
How can i know after calling the .show which button Yes/no they have pressed at the question dialog?
Best regards,
Jens

Simply create a property on your Question Dialog form, which you will set with a value telling what button was selected by the user. Read the property just after calling .show method.
Best wishes,

Your question would be better handled in the Embedded/Mobile Forum[^]. The information your asking is specific to Mobile developement, not Visual Basic.NET.

I am working on a project that consists of 4 forms. It starts with a main, which I have added a "Public Shared" variable for the title of all forms. This part works. It then branches off into 2 forms, then from these it goes to 1 form. I need to be able to take a variable from the two forms and pass it to the 3rd form and a variable from the 1st to the 3rd. Here is an example.
form 1
title - to all forms
user - to form 4
form 2
type - to form 4
form 3
type - to form 4
Any and all help is greatly appriciated.

Hi -
I've had some success adding public methods to the forms for passing information around, but it's been a while. I think the secret is that all of the forms can see main, but forms other than main might not be able to see each other. So to pass data from form2 to form3 it might be necessary for form2 to call a method in main which in turn sets the data in form3. Just make sure you don't try to call a method in a form before that form is instantiated or you'll get null pointer errors.
Hope this helps...

Hi,
I would like to perform some run-time coding such as:
s1 = "testing"
s2 = "s1"
s3 = evaluate(s2)
Then, s3 will become "testing".
Is it possible to do this in VB.NET or VB6?
Many thanks, Wilfred

If your attempting to do what I think your are, the short answer is no.
During the debugging session, most changes you make while the code is running will cause your app to restart. You'll have to run your app again in order to get your app back to the point where you made the changes.
If your talking about writing your own language interpreter, sort of like your own version of VB, then you would have to research expression evaluation. You could start with Runtime Compiled Symbolic Expressions[^] here on CodeProject. It's written in C#, but is can be converted to VB.NET. You might check out Exploring the Microsoft Script Control
[^] on MSDN. This article has some root into what you might be looking at doing.

Hello i am new to vb.net, and am learning it in tafe. I was wondering how to store certain information. I have done coding in another language which i used hash tables for, and i really liked them, so i was wondering if i can do hash tables in VB.Net and if so are they easy for storing data? Also is there a tutorial for them ?

I fetch a record from databse using SQL query. The result is in my command object. But i don't know that how to retrieve the values from command objects and how to iterate through it. Can any one help me ?
Dim rs As Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand = New Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand("select * from customer")
SQLREADER = rs.ExecuteReader
rs.ExecuteNonQuery()

From the code you have given the result will not be in the Command Object as there are no output parameters.
Second, the rs.ExecuteNonQuery() won't do anything useful because your SQL is a SELECT statement. ExecuteNonQuery is for when you do not expect any results back.
Your results are in the SqlDataReader object. Use the SqlDataReader.Read()[^] method to extract each record. The return value of this method will be true if a record was read, or false if there are no more records.
The data reader holds tha values of the current record, it has a number of Get...[^] methods to assist you in getting the values for each of the fields.
After you have the values you need for a record, loop around again calling the Read method until you have all your data.
Does this help?

Try this if you want a data reader:
<br />
Dim cnn as SqlConnection = New Connection(connectionString)<br />
Dim cmd as SqlCommand = New SqlCommand("SELECT * FROM Customer", cnn)<br />
Dim rdr as SqlDataReader = cmd.ExecuteReader()<br />
<br />
'Now iterate through the reader<br />
While rdr.Read()<br />
Console.WriteLine(rdr("CustomerName"))<br />
End While<br />
...<br />
