They are actually articles.
There's been a bit of scope creep with what is considered an article and what's a tip.
From the Submission wizard page:
What is an Article?
An article is typically either a tutorial that allows someone to learn about a technique or technology, or an explanation and documentation for code that you are uploading. Articles outline the problem you're trying to solve, the techniques you're using, and a simple explanation of how to use your code or techniques. Interesting gotcha's or trivia are always welcome.
What is a Tip/Trick?
A tip has the same layout as a regular article but is meant primarily to provide a quick coding solution or tip [...] Tips simply state a problem and a solution.
MAybe I need to clarify that, but it comes down to
- Articles can be short.
- Tips are super-quick Problem/Solution pieces.
SO if something starts getting into an explanation that's teaching you background, providing multiple screen shots, maybe has code, looks to be getting longer than a couple of paragraphs, then I'd start considering that an article.

I am not 100% sure but I think there is a problem with the "edit" function. IMHO it should keep the current type, but I think it goes back to "article" as default. That's why many Tip/Tricks end converted to articles after an update.

I would suggest a bit uniformity. For me the descriptions on:
Code Project Article FAQ - Article[^]
Code Project Article FAQ - Tip[^]
are a bit different than the ones in the wizard page.
What I usually use as explanation when I get a question of "why?" to my comments in approval queue is:
Quote: A post can contain 2500 words but it still being a tip. I don't think it is a matter of length
The biggest difference for me is the learn effect. Let's suppose the same topic.
Option 1:
You just say click here, choose that, use this code, click there...
This is a tip, no matter how long.
Option 2:
You need to click here to choose the option X1, because that will set the property Y1 that you need to make Z1. If you prefer to do Z2, then you will need to use the property Y2. Once you have done this, you should see that... Once done with this you can use this code to implement the functionality XXX. The code itself will do YYYY (commenting things that are not obvious seeing the code). I made several tests before taking this approach, this was my best option because...
This would be an article.

I've checked everywhere and there's no sign of it. Not in the versions table, not in the working article table, and not in the pending articles.

Definitely something is going on. I started it all over again , completed almost the whole article. Then I went to see the help for styling from the article page ( At that point I saved the draft to make sure) and then came back to retrieve the draft everything is gone but my uploaded images and source still there.
Can someone please help me to retrieve it? I never had this problem before ....

I can see lots of auto-saved versions of the article. You have the article locked so I can't touch it, but once you close your browser (or 15 mins is up) then I can go in and revert it.
Alternatively I can just email the content I see in our database.

This may be the closest to the line that distinguishes an article from a tip that I've ever seen.
Tips are generally shorter, and often "how-to" posts that covers the basics of a problem and how to solve it.
While we don't exactly welcome tool/utility/etc. sharing we sometimes put these in Tips & Tricks if they cover the problem, usage, and offer some explanation, such as in your post.
Articles are exhaustive works that aim to teach the reader as much as possible on the subject. Why did you start working on your project? What problem were you trying to solve? What did you learn along the way that could benefit others? How do most of the bits work? What are the concepts that a reader might need to understand before beginning your article?
Here’s an article example from one of our top authors:

His primary goal is to demonstrate “Using HTML5 WebWorkers and a custom jQuery plug-in to create a Flickr image wall.” He treats the reader like a beginner. He defines jQuery, explains what WebWorkers are, then gets into why he wanted to create a jQuery plugin. Each progressive section of the article expands on his topic, thoroughly explains the code, explains the limitations he chose in his scope, discusses how each element to his plug-in works, and provides numerous code examples.
As I said, you're basically there. You doing all the things you're supposed to be doing, but it feels a little bit like a quick fly-by, rather than full-bodied course in a lecture hall. Extremely close distinction though, closest I've seen.

Hi, I came across an interesting recent (Dec. 18) article here today that does not include source in its downloadable, but does include necessary 'dlls for running its "tutorial" sample [^].
It occurred to me that I had never thought about whether it is a requirement to include source, so, read the CP article FAQ, but could not find any clear statement on this.
The author of the article comments on a reader-comment that they are thinking about including the source.
Appreciate clarification.

If a dll is provided but no code then we'd need a very good reason why there's no code. A dll without code may contain malicious code.
Beyond that, where a code sharing, not an application sharing site.
Let the code be free.

Would this article[^] be misleading? It shows the completely wrong way to do what it tries to do, and such blatantly incorrect (and possibly dangerous) information shouldn't be allowed on a site that values quality (e.g. this site), IMO.
What think you guys?
