I would love to get an iPhone, but I would have to switch to AT&T because I'm currently with Verizon. I'm so jealous of you right now.

If they do come out with an "unlocked" version, I wouldn't be able to use any of it's 3G functionality. AT&T is the only wireless provider in the US that supports the 3G version of the iPhone (based on what I've read).

Yeah I'm guessing if it's the 3G you're after then you would be out of luck. For me, 3G wouldn't have done a thing for me so I was very happy to get the used one that ended up being a brand new one.
I haven't really checked to see if you can unlock any of these older iphone. Would be interesting if you could.

Also Verizon uses CDMA for their cellular network whereas AT&T uses GSM and the iPhone can't be used on Verizon.
I believe only AT&T and T-Mobile use GSM in the US, all the rest are CDMA.

Gotta live in Belgium mate  .
My iPhone worked, immidiately although it's getting used to at the beginning (took me some figuring out to unlock it). Now my work is paying the phone bills for my iPhone  . Then again, I use it for my work.
There some things I hate about it, but generally it's a very good phone.

I am using iPhone since April this year, and enjoying using this. Previously I was using Imate K-Jam and while upgrading to Windows 6, it crashed. Anyway, things I miss in iPhone are:
*- Video recording
*- Copy-Paste
*- Proper integration with Outlook, especially Notes

Man, I love my smartphone (iPhone.) I used to think they were unnecessary. Then my girlfriend had a baby. Between 4am and 5am when one hand is occupied with feeding junior you can have the smartphone in the other hand playing iCannon or Aurora Feint or browsing the Code Project or Digg or IMing with a friend in the Sudan or some such. Bloody brilliant. Saves me from making any meaningful contact with my daughter at night (if you engage with her at 4am she won't go back to sleep till 8am. Engage with her during the day all you want, just don't do it at night if you want either of you to get some sleep.)
I tried a Nokia N95 for awhile but if one phone personifies crapness then that is it. Sorry geeks, its a bad phone.

Just as well I didn't get one. I was thinking about it but the deal breaker for me was that I couldn't get a contract I liked. Now, I've seen people with the iPhone and I think it looks great - I might even get one...

Unfortunately my iPhone 3G experiences have been rather bitter so far. Calls drop consistently when 3G is enabled. The GPS does not work on 3G. When 3G is disabled call stability is good, but then my data speeds go down terribly. And even with 3G turned on, data speeds have been up and down all the time, and the last week or so speeds have been horrible. Oh and every once in a while Safari freezes up when I press the backspace key. After a 15 second pause all the backspaces are flushed together resulting in unexpected text deletions. My verdict so far for the iPhone 3G : Looks good, but not as usable as smartphones from other companies

Sorry to hear that Nish. I've read that 3G has been a problem for the iPhone but have not experienced any problems on mine (O2 network though, not AT&T or Rodgers.) You've got the latest firmware (2.0.2) yeah? Apparently that solves some of the 3G problems.

Ive got the HTC TyTN2, i absolutely love it!
There are only two things about this phone that i can really complain about, lack of graphics processing power and the tiny little speaker isn't as loud as any of my previous
Nokia's.
Now if i only had the time to develop some apps for it

Any one has an exact definition for Smartphone? I have a mobile that has calendar and is able to connect to the net, run some apps, etc. but as long as I know most of today mobile phones does have such features. Are all these cellphones called smart phone?
Is it just me or you have a tall text box for optional text answer? Maybe Chris is looking for deep and detailed text answers.

Just talking about this with my wife earlier today. My phone is cheap and dumb. If i break it, drown it, or lose it, i can get another one for less than the cost of one year of insurance / extended warrantee. It's also built like a brick, so in spite of numerous drops, crushes, and spills, it's working fine. I can and do toss two of them in one pocket before going for a ride, without misgivings as to whether either one will arrive worse for wear (although occasionally i do make some unintentional calls that way).
I must confess though, i am intrigued by the iPod Touch Skype hacks...

I still haven't gotten around to it, but my Nokia E61i is capable of doing that as well, not only that but also calling through any IM VOIP servce.
To top it off, I've never had to replace or repair my Nokias, they're tough and I'm quite clumsy. Barring the occasional scratch, there's nothing wrong with them.
