A master tailor may produce coats for his entire life, each differing in style, size, etc. A musician may play the same repertoire, trying to achieve perfection in playing the pieces. A composer may try writing music in differing styles. I would claim that our craft is closer to the master tailor than to the musician or composer.

I have developed the same kind of thing more than once at times. A "set of classes/methods for working with ADO.net" for example is something I've done several times and will likely do again. But each time is different, with a new set of requirements, each building on the experience of the previous and improving.

Standard normal distribution. For any group of people, with enough numbers, there will be those that are substantially above the norm and those that are below it.
I believe there are several studies that attempted to measure this related to producing code. One would need to carefully look at each study to determine how they measured the results. Finding them are not easy since there are attempts to monetize the measurement along with a vast number of opinions as to how to create that (which one would could compare to similar attempts to make better teachers.)

re/ 1st yes along w/ the study of advanced Physics etc. it is greatly pleasurable when the billiard balls fly as intended . as for piano i do not know but assume likewise great pleasure upon an expertly played Chopin Sonata .

I bought an ET-2800 a couple months ago, and at this point, I can't print anything because the paper constantly jams. Tried doing the various "cleaning" options. Never going to by an Epson again. 
If I weren't so environmentally conscious, I would get great pleasure in throwing the printer down the ravine and watching it break into pieces. Maybe I'll get out the sledge hammer and vent my frustration.
And no, getting it "repaired" isn't on my list, as I'm sure the problem will just return after a 100 pages or so of printing.

I have a Canon printer\copier\scanner combo in my home office. love it.
had it for 4+ years now, I think.
Had Epson year's ago. hate it. my wife hates them too. lots of hate there.

And my Canon printer randomly powers up with some generic "B200" error...or might work perfectly fine, with no apparent cause for one or the other. Sometimes powering it on/off 20 times in a row (when it starts reporting that error) might make it go away, but last time I tried, I had to give up. Might be fine again the very next time I try it, there's just no telling.

I only had one issue to speak of, and that was my scanning software stopped working after a Win11 update.
I had to wait about a month for a new scanner software update to download and install. all good after that.

Sounds like you got a bad one or something. Or you have some kind of software based rubbish going on.
My canons have been pretty reliable. One exception is when my cat finally caught the monster that lived inside the printer. It hasn't worked right since.  Still works though, but needs love.

The printer's maybe 3 years old, and I hardly ever print anything, given I have 2 lasers, and despise ink-jet printers. But, I use it primarily to print on printable discs, and laser's not an option here.
It worked great for the first couple of years, then it's only been getting progressively worse. I've gone through many ink cartridge replacements, especially since the first few dried prematurely as they hardly got any use. These days, knowing I can be months without using it, I try to take out the cartridges and place them back in a sealed plastic bag. That does seem to prevent them from drying up, but I'm also having a hard time powering up the printer without having it come up with that error code...

Always loved my Canons. Not perfect, but well better than HP. I haven't owned an Epson.

My cheap Cannon works like a charm for the last 10 years. And we feed it with the cheapest cartridges on the market.
Advertise here – minimum three posts per day are guaranteed.

I buy the toner bulk refill and normally have 5-6 refills per cartridge before they start having drum issues. No “HP chip in the cartridge” BS.

Always have been, though I hope they're better than the crappy 9-pin dot-matrix rubbish they used to peddle.

Dot matrix printers are worth a mint if you have them.
Put it on e-bay. A lot of small businesses still use carbon copy, and inkjet and laser don't work on that.

But only if it's a good quality one, not Epson. Epsons virtually arrive broken in the box from the factory.

Try working in an office with four DECwriters (LA120) which supported the printing needs of a small office building.

The office was also kept at 50F, the same as the adjoining computer room.
I can say no more.

I had a Epson 9 pin for years very long ago. Worked as long as I had it. I don't recall any problems. Never needed service and I wasn't even taking care of it that well.
Still working when I upgraded to a HP Laser which I only did so for the print quality. That HP Laser also lasted for years until I upgraded for color.
