I think this is the best option. I was going to suggest the macOS Catalina virtual image... but then you wouldn't get any useful benchmarks if your trying to optimize code.

I think with that new processor they have I'll see some using my library.
Besides, my library supports several exotic architectures. Even some 8-bit ones, and while it will compile and run on Apple right now (*knock on wood*) i can make it 5x to 6x faster by implementing two almost trivial functions.

Ok so it started thus
Yesterday I was prompted by iTunes to update my iPhone to the latest and greatest , I duly clicked yes ( my first mistake ) the update failed part way through and I opted to reset to factory default ( my second mistake ) it on rebooting told me to enter my apple id and password and then told me they or it was incorrect ( they weren't) I then entered into an endless loop of password reset bullshit, In desperation I rang apple customer service ( my third mistake) they told me I would have to wait 24 hours to unlock my account as it had an activation lock - I waited 24 hour to be told by iforgot.apple.com I couldn't reset my password until the 31st of Jan 2021 - WTF ? despite my protests I got nowhere - so I have no usable phone and no redress - to make things worse I contacted my provider Vodafone who informed me I needed to contact apple or pay a fee if I wanted a replacement phone - I feel totally alone in this - anyone had a similar experience ?

They are - apparently, I avoid overpriced, over hyped tat - excellent provided you do everything the Apple Way, and stay within the Apple Ecosystem. Dare to step outside (by having a non-Apple email address for example) and things start to go pear shaped pretty quickly.
And from what I've seen, their experts are ... um ... often rather less technical than I'd expect for a single make specialist.

I'm done with them now - this is war - I still have a year to go on my contract so it will be messy with Vodafone but they haven't been exactly helpful either. What phone do you use Paul ?

Won't Vodaphone supply you with a cheap Android, provided you keep your contract with them. That is what I would expect from a provider here in the States.

HUAWEI P30 lite[^]
Good memory, good processor, good display, good camera (48 megapixel though it normally averages 4 pixels to generate 12 megapixel files), NFC for Covid friendly contactless payments, face / fingerprint recognition, good battery life ... and pretty cheap for what it does.
Mine lives in a case, partly because I use a mag mount in the car for satnav, partly because it's a fully glass body - which looks very pretty but slides out of your hand far too easily. It's survived several cat-related falls and a bounce round the car which was my fault (I didn't put it on the mag mount right and had to hit the brakes hard). The bouncing session dinked the screen on one of the seat runners, but the standard issue screen protector took the hit and the glass under was undamaged. A cheap replacement later, and all was pristine again.

Nope but I have a great little tool that rips the centre out of an apple. I would be getting a cheap android phone to use as a backup while you wrestle with Apple.

If you don't want anything fancy, I think the Samsung A-Series are pretty nice in quality-price. My A50 was around 250 € ober 18 months ago and my wife's A41 was 210 € some weeks ago.
I only miss some quality with pictures in really low luminosity.
But for normal use... we are more than happy with them.

Search for him in youtube and prepare to watch someone ripping Apple a new one for their behaviour over and over and over again.

Nokia 1 is an Android phone and costs around £60, and works with pay as you go. I have had mine for over two years now and it does everything I need. And can even make and receive telephone calls.

and this is why I use android.
My wife and son have apples because they are sooo much 'better' I never seem to have any issues. Wife has been trying to update her Fruit watch for a few months now. Also Son seems to have endless issues with his phone.
