I think the intent of writing has also change a bit.
Earlier it was keeping things way personal - whatever the case.
Now, most of the people don't hesitate sharing about their personal life socially.
On tech side, Handful write blogs/articles about what they learn or what to share but you get very few readers.

There's a video of him playing ice hockey with pros and being allowed to score a goal. At least he skates as well or better than me, which is to say not that well. Later, he's skating along the boards, doesn't notice the carpet rolled out onto the ice, and does a face plant.
