0) The "solution folder" feature in visual studio is broken (IMHO).

a) If you add a folder to your soultion in the IDE, it doesn't create a
physical folder on the file system.

b) When you add a "new item" to your solution folder in the IDE, it puts
the file in the root folder of your solution, even if there's a
physical folder in your solution folder.

The work-around for this behavior is to create a physical folder on your file system (ostensibly in the solution's folder), create the desired "new item" file as an empty text file, and then use the IDE to add that existing item to your solution folder.

1) You can add these common files "as link" to projects in youer soultion. This is really handle for MVC/CRaP apps because this means you can have a multi-app solution that can share partial views and stuff. Silly me - I thought this extended to ALL types of files that were added "as link", but that's not the case. Specifially, CSS files are not included in this ability. Sure, you can add CSS files "as link", but the files are NOT included in the build process. Instead, you have to create a partial view and put your css in a style element. At that point, you can add the partial view file "as link", and Bob's your uncle.

I've spent two weeks dickin' around and googling my redneck keester off, trying to figure out how this stuff doesn't work.

I still haven't explored images or javascript files with regards to "add as link", but I bet that's gonna suck bigger'n a bucket of ticks.
