Great. That would only leave the minor issues of Mickeysoft feeling entitled to install spyware whenever they feel like it and generally feeling right at home, using my resources as they wish and telling me to buzz off when they have other plans with my computer. And I can't even switch off all these goodies. 
What would you do if the manufacturer of your car behaved like that? Or the constructor of your house? In Texas I would prepare for their arrival (*)

That may be the reason why I never was interested in anything Apple made after the Apple II.
How they behave? Just like Apple. They Gather information as they please, use my resources as they please (the update to Win10 would have cost me the bandwith for an entire month) and they tell me to buzz off when they feel like it. And what am I supposed to do when my notebook is busy updating for a few hours and I need it for an appointment?
Perhaps Mickeysoft wants to be just like Apple, but they will see that they get the kind of customers they deserve for that.

Look, I have no idea what they try to grab from my computer. it does not really matter, because the simple fact that they don#t care to ask for permission anymore tells me that this may be for their good, but certainly not for mine and that this will only get worse once the obstacles are finally out of their way.
Using my bandwidth and the computer itself whenever and as long as they please already is enough and again I have no way to stop this. This also will not get any better.

Curious if you use Android. I found it far easier to turn off info-gathering stuff in Windows 10 than Android (and still haven't figured out how to turn off Hangouts without Android popping up warnings all the time.)

I moved to 8 and then 10 after my Windows 7 got really flaky--as in losing data flaky. I actually prefer 8.1, but have found 10 much more stable than 7.
Two of my [adult] sons are still on Windows 7 and keeping their laptops running well is becoming a chore. I've had mixed experiences upgrading laptops and neither wants to take that gamble (both need new laptops, but I'm not paying for them.)

The symptoms were similar to a bad SATA controller, but I've had no problems with Windows 10 and so was left scratching my head.
One possibility is that it was a combination of SATA controller, driver and rev of the HD firmware. (There was such an issue several years back with a line of Seagate SATA drives and an AMD chipset, though the symptoms were slightly different.)
