You'd have to ask the hamsters: I'm pretty sure they keep that kind of thing, but it isn't strictly relevant in the "real world" since it measures sessions, not actual users at a point in time: if I open the lounge and close my browser immediately, I will still be counted in the "online" total until my server session expires twenty or so minutes later.

It is the only explanation of how I solved a mystery.
One of the CCTV installs I did recently has been giving me some headaches.
Between 3.00am and 8.00 am the DVR unit has been stopping and rebooting many times in the night.
The rest of the time it works fine.
I just couldn't work out what the problem was.
I woke this morning with the cause and solution in my mind!
This unit is based in a pub, and specifically in a area to the rear of the pub which houses the Fridges, Freezers, Washing Machines etc.
During the day there is, just, and adequate power supply, however, at night the lights go off and the cameras switch over to IR.
That in itself puts the draw on the limit.
But every now and again a fridge motor starts up and the tiny extra load for the start up (not for the continuing running, merely the start - ask an electrical engineer (of which I am one from a previous career)) is enough to drop the current to the DVR, even momentarily, but enough to force a reboot!
I am running the DVR (1.5amp), The Monitor(1.5amp),3 x Power Supplies for the Cams (3 x 4.5 amp(max load)) (Total 16.5 amp) off a single spur at 13 amp. (Within the tolerance of a 13amp fuse, but still 'Hot'.
Of course this is then susceptible to line noise and current changes as the other equipment on the line is heavy.
Solution?
Run another spur off the ring to just power the DVR!
But this all appeared as a complete solution in my head the moment I woke up this morning.

I quite often do some of my best thinking not long after my head hits the pillow. It can be really annoying sometimes, as in my efforts to make sure I remember, I end up with a sleepless night.
The solution was fairly simple - a notepad and pen on the bedside table. The times I have to get up and fire up the compiler to see if my dopy ideas are genius or stupidly missing out on some vital part have greatly reduced.

I have a similar but much simpler solution. When I have a brain fart wave at night, I wake up she who must not be disturbed and tell her the idea. I can then go to sleep safe in the knowledge that in the morning she will ask me why I woke her up at 2 am to tell her x.

1/ I'm not *that* brave,
2/ She sleeps like a baby, so anything I tell her would get a "Mmmble phlumph", and be instantly forgotten. So I'd still worry about forgetting my nuggets of genius (or so they seem at the time)

Cameras that draw 1KW each. I'm not getting you in to do a CCTV install! That can't be right, the electricity bill will be massive. More likely the voltage spikes from the white goods are causing the issue. Use an extension lead for all the CCTV gear with built in suppression, or even a UPS, which normally have built in suppression.

Oh I see, so this install really needs nearly 4KW? That's going to cost a fortune to run, it would be cheaper to replace anything that gets stolen.

Nope my maths is perfect, I=16.5 V=240 = around 4KW
Using your maths then why the do you need a separate spur? You are only drawing 148W from a socket capable of providing around 3KW. Your current draw, assuming 100% efficiency is only 0.6A @ 240V. Or am I missing something.

13a per spur...running 16a from it.
The machine room itself is spurred of the ring and has a separate board, but it is therefore susceptible to spikes and a dirty line as it is not a true ring.
The capacitance needed to kick start the fridge motors will reduce the output to the rest of the circuit.
I do not know the ratings of all the equipment, but it is obvious from the periodicity of the reboots that this is what is happening.
What I need to do is run a second spur from the main ring into the machine room.
I will probably knock up a bit of circuit too, a bridge rectifier and bung the output through a 555 hex inverter twice.
(Or 74ac14 which is a hex inverter with a schmitt trigger).
Bung a bit of capacitance onto the system and I should have a clean, spike free line with enough tolerance on drops to stop the reboots.

So the 16A includes the washing machine and other white goods?
I still think the best way to solve the problem is a UPS, that way you keep recording even if the power fails, they can be obtained for less than £60. Plug it in and see if the problem goes away.
Anyway that's what I would have dreamt.
