It's not good at all. There does seem to be a trigger happy tendency - worse still, they seem to like to fire both barrels and remove both the post and the account.

I want to buy an android tablet for The Boy(TM)'s birthday.
Cheap is good.
Mainly will be used for playing games online (so needs to run flash) and watching videos (so I guess reasonable wifi and graphics)
I think a 7-9 inch would be about right - but happy to listen to other recommendations.
The Wife saw an Amicroe 9" on special, which looked like it was OK - but I never heard of them and really know little or nothing about the android market - so I throw myself on your mercy.
Tell me what to buy.

I bought the wife and kids a Google Nexus 7 for Christmas 2012, they have had no dramas with it so far. All love it and they now come with a full HD screen.

That will be a problem:
1. AFAIK Adboe does not support Flash on Android anymore. You can't just install it, you need to find and old version and browser that still support it.
2. Cheap tablets are often incompatible and games fail to run (not only online, but also native apps). Specification seems to be OK, but games just don't start or have unacceptable framerate.
I've tried it. My son was very unhappy with cheap tablet that can't run half of games. I had to replace it with Samsung Galaxy Tab 2.0 7". He is happy now

+1 gets my vote too. Around Christmas time Tesco were doing 4*club card voucher deal on electricals, with that and my Wife's staff discount it only cost us £24, superb value.

He has a mountain bike. And a BMX. Three skateboards, two or three scooters, his own skatepark (well, four or five ramps) and spends much of his free time playing outside with his friends, or down the beach surfing or body-boarding, or playing soccer.
So rather than being a smarmy git, why not answer the question or just don't respond at all ?

Because we live in a culture when a 2 year old has a ipad or similar (and yes i know a guy with 2 children buying for each of them ipads )
I believe that the ipad is not a good gift for a child yes its shiny and it can do many things like for example cheat in school. You are giving him a great example and opportunity. But what actually he can do with it which really matters to him and showing off is not a valid answer. Does he really needs it ?
I wrote my answer only to suggest a better gift(in my opinion) and it was with no intention to tell you what to do. I just replied topic and in any case it was not written with squinty look and/or a superior smile on my face and i don't even know what git means.

He's not allowed any electronic equipment at his school - and in schools where devices are allowed they're not used for 'cheating' - often they use them for giving out resources such as course notes, videos etc. which is actually far more cost effective than providing copies for each child, and much harder for the children to misplace.

He can use it to look things up on the internet (for example, he just built himself a crossbow following instructions found on youtube)
He can us it to skype his relatives who live overseas.

I was having a particularly bad day, yesterday, and you took the brunt of my frustration at work, for which I apologise.
However, I am sick and tired of people online not actually answering a question - your answer was typical of many a Q&A answer.

Whereas the better answer would be
Are you
sure you want to do X, as Y would be better and faster, but if you want to do X then you can do it like this...

Possibly because he wanted to warn you that all of that's gonna get completely ignored once he gets his tablet. That's pretty much what happened when my sister's ex gave one to his kid (he's 9). He also used to spend a lot of time playing cards and traditional board games with his grandparents--now his attitude is pretty much to hell with them, unless he forgets to bring it.

I bought my brother an HP Slate 7. Lovely little device. He put it in a draw to mature for a few years while he sends his 10 year old PC out to be 'repaired' by the local 'little man in the shop'.
That will save him from upgrading windows for almost a month.
You can lead a twit to a tablet, but in the end they really should have had the mountain bike.
