Hi
I created a client and server app. using Sockets, is there a way that the client can locate the listening server without knowing the server IP Address in C#/VB.NET?
|
|
|
|
|
It needs some way to locate the server. It could be a domain name or subdomain e.g. http://myserver.mydomain.com. This will resolve via DNS to an IP address assuming the DNS is configured correctly.

Hi,
My application is designed in .net framework 2.0 which is working fine with 4+ client with more then 1000+ users.
But in one client environment application is closing suddenly without giving any error message or event in event log.
We have UI +Web services +DB layers. All are developed in .framework 2.0.
Right now in client environment in IIS7 my application is running. And in user machines
Framework 2.0, 3.0, 3.5 is there becoz of windows updates.
Any one can guess what could be the problem application is closing randomly.
There is no timeframe when application close.
Regards,
Pritesh

hello,everyone. I have come to the follow question.
A file from Host (AS/400 or IBM 9000) in EBCDIC(ibm 1388 or cp935) encode , include some chinese chars.
Now, I would translate the string in this file to chinese chars in Windows OS and .net Framework, which is gb2312 encode. I have search many archives, but can't find a way.
Please help me ! Thanks.
hope for help

A quick scan of google brings up a product called TextPipe Pro which claims to do it. Not sure if that helps you or not but it might be worth looking at if all else fails.

TextPipe is a software, not source code. I need a way to translate the code in .net framework.
thank you , anyway.

A quick scan of google brings up some examples of converting between GB2312 and unicode.
static void Main(string[] args) {
string infile = args[0];
string outfile = args[1];
using (StreamReader sr = new StreamReader(infile, Encoding.GetEncoding(936))) {
using (StreamWriter sw = new StreamWriter(outfile, false, Encoding.UTF8)) {
sw.Write(sr.ReadToEnd());
sw.Close();
}
sr.Close();
}
}
It shouldn't be too hard to start from that and figure out how to convert from EBCDIC.

This can only trans 936 to Utf8, can't translate 1388 to 936.
hope for help

By the way you supply, we can only translate IBM EBCDIC 037 or 500 to 936(gb2312), but can't translate the 1388 encode. I think it maybe the there is not the 1388 encode in the EcodeInfo class. Why .net doesn't supply this???
hope for help

Dear All,
I have installed Vista OS and .Net 2.0 .. and .Net 3.5 in my computer,
I am really interested to know which services are dependant to .Net 2.0 and .Net 3.5?
I mean all services for both network connection, applications and what ever relays to .Net framework.

.NET 2.0 and .NET 3.5[^] applications both run on CLR 2.0 - they're using the same language as it were.

There is no list available that I'm aware of. Maybe there's an other way of achieving what you want. Why were you interested?

hi,
i had filled my datatable with datas from Excel file. i want to insert these datas to a database table, before insertion i want to check is there any duplicate document_number in datatable. how can i check this without looping each rows in datable?
Advance thanks...Sam.

You could always set up a UniqueConstraint on your datatable to detect if you have any constraint violations. It would look something like this:
DataColumn col = myDataTable.Columns[0];
UniqueConstraint constraint = new UniqueConstraint(col);
myDataTable.Constraints.Add(constraint);

Even though v create a constrain, how v can check in database table to datatable datas

Using a constraint as suggested won't tell you which rows are duplicated. To find this programatically, you have to loop through the rows at least once. Try creating a DataView of the table and sorting it by the column that contains duplicates. Then loop through the rows in the view & check each value against the previous row value

Rob - UniqueConstraints throw a ConstraintException when the constraint is broken. This provides more than enough info to work out what's been violated.

Hi everyone.
I am having some trouble with GDI plus. At my work, we have several artists creating animations with an application we made with C# (frames are rendered with GDI+'s Graphics). Recently, there have been several issues between artists and developers trying to open the same animation (therefore, invoking the drawing of them).
Some of the artists use Windows 7. When they upload the image of a frame, it works fine. On the developer side, some of us use VMware or crappier PCs. We open the animation the artist made, and a "System.OutOfMemoryException" is thrown. I looked at the code and it was the DrawImage code (with ImageAttributes). Strangely enough, this ONLY happens when drawing the images imported to the application with Windows 7. Even stranger, if I call the simpler version of DrawImage, it does not crash.
We then started to chase what was happening, and it appears Windows 7 adds some metadata to the images, which is causing GDI+ to crash on certain machines when drawing with image attributes. Using a PNG Stripper(http://www.steelbytes.com/?mid=30[^]) we ran the files uploaded to our application and would no longer get this message.
I have several questions:
1. Is this a known issue with GDI+?
2. Is there a way to prevent this bug (other than attaching the stripper as a batch tool before uploading the images, and other than using a regular DrawImage call)?
3. Has anyone else experienced this?
My specs:
- C# 2.0
- VS2005
- Microsoft .Net Framework 2.0

Hi,
I haven't experienced this myself, however I am aware GDI+ and .NET generate a rather silly error code or OOM Exception when something is "wrong" with the image format, see the MSDN documentation[^].
So what you would like to have is a GDI+ update that brings the non-Win7 machines up to Win7 level, however I don't know such update exists.
PS: you probably could automate the stripper tool in your workflow, using the .NET Process class, without resorting to batch files that is.
