Used by lots of people, it helps a lot to stay in touch with family... you reduce phone costs and have the availability to videoconference home or customers.
Nice and free[^].

If you are looking for a tool that can search through all files / folders this is a useful tool.
The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realise it doesn't say anything it's too late to stop reading it.

Just like to express my appreciation for "Agent Ransack:" in my humble opinion this absolutely puts Windows Vista/7 "native" search feature to shame: it's blazingly fast, and "look ma, no indexing" !
I've enjoyed pointing Agent Ransack out to ten people I know, most of them not programmers; every one of them has been enthused, and, as I do, feel that once you try it, you will never think of using Win search again.

I agree totally!

Great tool. I'd never heard of it a couple of years ago, but now I wonder how I ever managed without it.

Cedrick Collomb's "UnLocker"[^]
current version: 1.9.1
OS compatibility: "2000 / XP / 2003 / Vista / Windows 7" (Win 7 since version 1.9.0)
A neat tool for file/folder unlocking (and more) which can be run in the system tray, and can be added to Windows context-click menu, I've used it on both Win Vista 32 and 64-bit Win 7.
See the feature matrix[^] on the site for a comparison of its functionality with other tools for programmers.

That looks interesting Bill, thanks for the heads up.
I have had the problem specified and it seems very good for the price!

The problem with Unlocker is that it comes bundled with all kind of crap.
It use to put down an ebay shortcut... it now installs the bing toolbar, etc...
As a result it has been black listed by many anti-viruses and firewalls.
It's a shame because it's a good tool, I just wish the installer was not bundled with all this rubbish.

The installer offers options to not install the crap. Do these options not work for you?

Hi Eddy,
F.lux is a very neat program, and its system-tray-based ui is a great example of an appropriately "graphic" interface.
fyi: may not play nicely with the latest beta of nVidia graphic card drivers (which is probably nVidia's beta's problem).

If you do any form of work that requires creating graphics, there are some handy free utilities that you may want to consider. You could look at Paint.NET[^], the wonderfully named GIMP[^] and even an Illustrator type application called Inkscape[^].
|
|
|
|
|
I just came across Inkscape and was going to post about it until I searched and found your post. For anybody who searches this forum later, I should mention that Inkscape can do vector graphics well and there is an eBook available for the Nook (search "Inkscape"). It also works as an SVG viewer.
