Hi All,
We have a PDF document about 2MB.It has many web links.
We are trying to get this document into a database format with search & reporting capabilities and we want to preserve all links and text formats in the document.
We have a couple of questions:
- What database technology could we use that could run on both a CD and a web site?
- What conversion tools (and processes) would be best to use to import the content into a database?
-Can SQL Server 2000 Reporting Services help us? If so,how?
Any help/suggestions will be appreciated.Thanks.

2MB isn't very big. I think it would be easier to migrate the content by hand rather that trying to do it programmatically.

Hi Paul,
Thanks for your reply.
To migrate the content,here is our initial plan:
-Convert PDF into a word or text file.
-Use SQL loader to transfer the content to the database.
We appreciate your comments on this plan.Also please feel free to suggest any other way to migrate the content to a database.

Not knowing anything about the structure of your data, I can't really help.
The content of a PDF file is likely to be unstructured. This means it would be difficult to write scripts to load data into a structured repository like a database. Your best bet is to cut and paste the content into Excel or a text file and load the data from there.

Hi Paul,
Thanks for your suggestions regarding loading the PDF into a database.
We have one more thing where we need your suggestion.
We need to publish the database in some format (e.g., XML, MySQL, etc.) to a CD-ROM or DVD.Please let us know if you know some way to do it.Or if you can post a couple of URLs that we can look at to get some ideas on it,that will be helpful too.
Thanks.

If you are using SQL Server 2005, you should consider using SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) to produce your exports. This site[^] has plenty of useful information. I suggest you search it for information on exporting data to specific formats. Deciding what format to export your data depends largely on the requirements of the people who will be consuming the data. Have you discussed this with your users, and what have they told you?

Hello,
I have datatable and it is populated with some values.
Is it possible to add a column in an exiting datatable now with a auto increment values?
I am trying like this but it does'nt wotk
dslistItems1.Tables[0].Columns.Add("ID", Type.GetType("System.Int32"));
DataColumn[] pk = new DataColumn[1];
pk[0] = dslistItems1.Tables[0].Columns["ID"];
//dslistItems1.Tables[0].PrimaryKey = pk;
dslistItems1.Tables[0].Columns["ID"].AutoIncrement = true;
dslistItems1.Tables[0].Columns["ID"].AutoIncrementSeed = 1;
dslistItems1.Tables[0].Columns["ID"].ReadOnly = true;
This code doesn't populate the values in the column

Hii all,
I want to know how to insert multiple rows into a single column with one single statement. I want structure something like this.
JobNumber Supply Parts
J001 Tyres
Bonnets
Engine
J002 Mirrors
Seat Cover
Is it possible in Sql Server 2005 or My Sql. I want to insert values where column JobNumber will have only one value and Supply Parts for that particular job number say J001 will have different values like above in SupplyParts column.
Any help will be greatly appreciated
Thanks
Imran

You want to have more than one table and set up a relationship between tables. Then you create a row that represents the "job" in one table, and a series of rows in the other table to represent the supply parts. The supply parts table would have a link back to the job table.

Use the SET NOCOUNT ON at the start of the query in your stored procedure and SET NOCOUNT OFF at the end of the query.
This should help resolve "invalid pointer" error messages.
This is a known issue with DTS packages.

You've given nobody any idea what the tables are like in your database. You expect people to magically know?

That's not really helpful. You expect people to look in their crystal ball and know the answer for you. Try being more descriptive.
