Please help me to merge two or more cells of a DataGridView using vb.Net Code.[ just like in Excel]

The DataGridView does not have that capability, you would have to paint the control yourself.
I found this control : SourceGrid[]
Maybe look into that?

Like told already, DataGridView doesn't support that. You need to use a third party control or handle the paint.
Here's an example that uses a richtextbox to simulate a cell: MergedDataGridView Control

Maybe better respond to the OP?
Nice link though, don't know who univoted you.

I have a small issue with a bound data grid view. Let me try to explain as best I can.
To add a row in a data grid view you simply click on the bottom row of the grid, this header row icon changes from * to >* to show you are adding a new row. As soon as you edit any of the cells in the row the icon changes to a pencil and a new blank row appears underneath. To save the changes to the row you are adding (not to the SQL database just to the data grid), you simply hit return or select the new blank row underneath. To cancel your changes hit escape.
The problem I have is that I am setting the default values of all cells when a new row is added. These default values in most cases will be correct. But for the user to be able to commit the row they have to edit one of the cells (so that the pencil icon appears), then either hit return or select the new row.
What I am trying to do when the user clicks a new row is to set the default values and automatically set it to this "Pencil" mode. Allowing the user to hit escape if they do now want to make the changes, but also hit return or select the next row to make the changes. I have tried forcing the cell into edit mode but this does not fix the issue.
I would be grateful for any ideas.
Thanks.

You need to get a .Net book and do some reading.
|
|
|

See here[^] as a starting point, but also try and use MSDN for yourself as it contains a wealth of information. If you need a tutorial then try a Google search, or look at the articles here on CodeProject; Hint: look under ADO.NET.
It's time for a new signature.

Hi guys,
I am an intermediate when it comes to the repeater control. I would like to restrict the repeater to get the first 5 columns of the table.
Is there a way to accomplish this without paging? Paging is more complex for a repeater and I would like to avoid it. I do no even need paging, just the first 5 results.
Thanks for any help or hints!

How about restricting the data that you load, with a SELECT TOP 5 FROM [blah] ?

I need to determine who created a file on a Windows Server network drive, and depending on which user created it, do some additional processing on it.
All is working well except for determining who created the file. If I right-click on the file select properties and then the Details tab, there is a property call "Owner", which would be the obvious place to obtain the detail I require, but so far I have not been able to find away of reading this information with VB.NET 2008.
By the way, these files are NOT MS Office files.
Any pointers?
Thanks

File.GetAccessControl gives you a FileSecurity object, which has a GetOwner method. Does that give you what you are looking for?

Yes, yes, yes. I love you. I want your babies. Well actually, possibly, I wouldn't go that far, but yes, does exactly what I need. Thanks very much.

With one big caveat.
GetOwner returns the current owner. When a file is created, the owner will be the person who created the file, but this can be changed easily by anyone with sufficient permission.

Not a problem. i have written a program to process data within the file as soon as it is created.

Simply you can use the DataGridView's DataSource, like the below...
Dim MyDtb As New DataTable
DataGridView1.DataSource = MyDtb
blah...blah....blah....
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button3.Click
MyDtb.Rows.InsertAt(MyDtb.NewRow, DataGridView1.CurrentCell.RowIndex)
End Sub
