How do I link my basic exe VB program to a dll in order to access the prototypes available in the dll?
I downloaded the DLL and now it's sitting around cos I don't know how to access it...

If it's a plain library .DLL, you'll need the docs on it. Without them, you'll be groping around in the dark. You can get the function names using the Depends utility that came with Visual Studio 6, but you won't be able to get the parameters that each function takes. It's simply not available from the .DLL itself.
There are exceptions to this, of course. First if it's a COM registered .DLL, you set a reference to the .DLL instead of using Declare yada yada yada . All public functions will be available with their parameter lists. Or, if the .DLL comes with a .TLB file, you can import that as a reference instead.

im wondering how you can setup a form so it cannot be closed?
i am trying to have a form so that the only way to get rid of it is to press a button on the form, which will only .hide() it. and another button on different form will .show() it, restoring all of it's window settings, etc. this is including when the user presses alt+f4 or hits the X (close) button, to hide rather than close the form.
...
i was just reading up on it, and it seems to work like this:
Private Sub BrowserForm_Closing(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.ComponentModel.CancelEventArgs) Handles MyBase.Closing<br />
e.Cancel() = True<br />
Me.Hide()<br />
End Sub
this the proper way to do this?
thanks for any input.

If your application goes through a web service, it won't have any direct connection to the database. The web service should handle all interaction with the database.

this extra menu is the same as the menu we get when
we click the right button on windows
i wish to do this menu on datagrid
can it be done?
if cant kindly tell me
if can kindly guide or provide me with any article i can refer
thank you in advance
Gary

hi gary, the menu you refer to is called a context menu. it can be used in conjunction with a datagrid or any other windows form element.
just handle the mouseclick, mousedown, or mouseup event of the datagrid, check the event args to see which button was clicked and display your context menu appropriately. you should be able to find some help on msdn here[^]
hope this helps.

hi
i need to know how can convert from number to words
thank you
|
|
|
|
|
You're going to have to write the code to parse up the number and generate the words. There is nothing in the .NET BCL that will do this for you, nor in Crystal Reports. Or you could Google for a class to do it for you. There are plenty of examples of this floating around. Even a few here in the Code Project articles.

hi all
i write code for sending mail thru VB using an Outlook object. my coding is as follows
Dim objOutlook As Object <br />
Dim objOutlookMsg As Object <br />
Set objOutlook = CreateObject("Outlook.Application")<br />
Set objOutlookMsg = objOutlook.CreateItem(0)<br />
With objOutlookMsg<br />
.To = strToAdd<br />
.Subject = "Hai"<br />
.Body = "Here is the body"<br />
.HTMLBody = "HTML body here"<br />
.Send<br />
End With<br />
Set objOutlookMsg = Nothing<br />
Set objOutlook = Nothing
but when sending the mail the outlook shows warning message like
"A program is trying to automatically send mail onbehalf you. Do u want to allow it?? " with 'Yes' and 'No' button.
but i want my program does not thro a warning like this. how to avoid this? i can't change the outlook settings also.what to do?pls help.
Ever loving
Boomi.

There's no way to can avoid this in your code. This is a security feature in Outlook that is doing this. With the proliferation of email viruses (scripts), I think you can figure out why this feature now exists. To get rid of the message, you'll have to go into Outlook, click on the Tools/Options menu, Security tab, then make sure to turn off the "Warn me when other applications try to send mail as me." checkbox.

But i have Outlook 2003 only.. so there is no option for disabling the security warning.. is there any API's to disable that warning thru coding?? please help me...

If you have IE installed, you will, by default, have Outlook Express installed, which is normally found at C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msimn.exe. This is where the warning message is coming from and where you have to go to turn it off. The full versions of Outlook don't have the option to turn it off, at least through 2002. I don't know about 2003.

Hi!
I am trying to populate a flexgrid (inherits from the .net datagrid) with some data from a dataset.
The problem is that I would like to suspend the updating of the grid while populating data (i.e. adding rows) and resume when all data is populated to make it faster.
I would like to do this without unbinding and rebinding the datasource, cause when rebinding the dataset all the 25 collumns are displayed, which is a rather slow process.
Or is there a way to make the grid remember which columns where visible/not visible when rebinding a datasource??
Thanks in advance
Regards
Mikael

if FlexGrid inherits from the current .Net datagrid then you should have available to you.
myFlexGrid1.SuspendLayout & myFlexGrid1.ResumeLayout
alternately, you could use the Suspend & Resume Layout methods of the parent form to suspend the layout of all form elements while binding the data to the grid.

Hi all,
Does anybody know how to do searching pattern like below using Regular Expression or any other techniques?:
NA* = will search all string started with NA
*NA = will search all string ended with NA
*NA* = will search all string containing NA
I have did everything and use all the resources from Internet and books but still could not found any solutions on this.
Any helps and ideas greatly appreciated.

Hi !
You must use the System.Text.RegularExpressions.Regex class for this.
For string starting with NA, the pattern will be "^NA", ending with NA is "NA$", and containing NA is just "NA". Here's a small sample console application I've made :
Imports System.text.RegularExpressions
Module RegExpTest
Sub Main()
Dim Start As String = "NAZERTYUIOP"
Dim [End] As String = "AZERTYUIOPNA"
Dim Inside As String = "AZERTNAUIOP"
Dim rStart As New Regex("^NA")
Dim rEnd As New Regex("NA$")
Dim rInside As New Regex("NA")
Console.WriteLine(rStart.Match(Start).Success)
Console.WriteLine(rEnd.Match([End]).Success)
Console.WriteLine(rInside.Match(Inside).Success)
Console.WriteLine(rEnd.Match(Start).Success)
Console.WriteLine(rStart.Match([End]).Success)
Console.ReadLine()
End Sub
End Module
