Hello everyone, I'm having some troubles binding my gridview to an oracle database, I'm using the oracle provider 10, it doesn't generate the insert, update and delete, so i tried to write them down for the datasource but wasn't successful. How could i write my own insert , update and delete in for the gridview linked with that datasource ??
Thanks in advance

I have a portal for users with different roles,I have defined roles for my users from asp.net configuration.by defining the users and their roles .Net 2.0 has created a database just for users.
For additional functionality in my portal I need more tables to add,I wanted to know wether I have to add tables to same database or to create a new database by myself and connect it to the database which .Net 2.0 has created!!
|
|
|
|
|
You can
a) add to the aspnetdb - not recommended since it may be shared by other other applications
b) create your own db and leave user data in aspnetdb
c) create your own db and register it as the target for asp.net user and profiles (asp_regsql.exe, I think)
only two letters away from being an asset

If I create a new database then how can I connect it to my users database??!!
|

Something called a connection string and a little programming knowledge and skill.

The aspnetdb.mdf is just a database with the membership schema/functionality installed.
All you really need to do is rename the DB/Log file to something less ambiguous (e.g. client_db.mdf")
Now, the schema is intact along with all the functionality. Then change the DB name in your connection string, presumably in your web.config file to match that of what you renamed it too.
Then you can add all the tables you need, to the existing DB.
However, it would be good to brush up on the Memebership classes and security protocols like previously mentioned.
Hope this helps.

This website is designed for programmers. We will not just hand over chunks of code. If you have a piece of code that is not working, we can look at it and give you help. You are asking for something that is a basic, and a simple google search and a couple hours of reading/typing will solve your answer. but you want us to do it, and you're acting upset. Get over yourself and put a little brain power into it.

First, I don't understand your response.
Second, don't type in all caps. It's considered rude.

I have a gridview showing ProjectCode, Contractor and the Project Cost. I want to iterate through the grid row and highlight the row with the lowest projectcost in green while the rest cost in another color. pls how do i go about this

After binding the Data to the GridView find the index of the Row which contains
lowest projectcost.
let it be leastIndex;
gridView.Rows[leastIndex].Style["background-color"] = "#cccccc";
If it does not works:
make a loop and try to set the property to all the cells of that row:
gridView.Rows[leastIndex].Cells[i].Style["background-color"] = "#cccccc";

Hi, I have declared sitemapprovider in my web.config file:
------------------------------------------
<system.web>
<authentication mode="Forms" />
<roleManager enabled="true" />
<siteMap >
<providers>
<add name="secureProvider" type="System.Web.XmlSiteMapProvider" siteMapFile="Web.sitemap" securityTrimmingEnabled="true"></add>
</providers>
</siteMap>
-----------------------------------------------------
However, when I try to use this map provider via menu control, I cannot see any item in the menu. What may be wrong?
I`m using standard Menu control with SiteMapDataSource, where I point the name of that provider declared in web.config file. Menu is placed in my master page.
Thank you very much in advance

Hi
Hope you guys can help? I’ve struggling with this for ages.
I have this ASP.NET page that prints Labels/Barcodes to a local printer (BarcodePrinter1) – the user doesn’t get to select a destination, it’s hardcoded.
Now if that page is run over Citrix, then the hard coding fails, because the printer gets mapped to the Citrix session as (Client\\localcomputername#\BarcodePrinter1).
So what I was proposing was setting the localcomputername to the LAST computer from Active Directory, that the user logged on to.
That’s where I’ve hit my brick wall.
Can it be done? Is there another way to retrieve the users local computer name from the webpage, when this is run over Citrix? Can we determine whether the page is running from Citrix at all?
Any pointers/solutions would be gratefully accepted.
Thanks
Tony

I have a grid view that has a number of templated fields. The gridview is populated using a stored procedure. What I want to do is get the values in each cell in a row. But I am not getting any value from the cell. The simplified code is as shown below. Any idea why the code is not showing the value in the cell.
protected void dgPayment_RowEditing(object sender, GridViewEditEventArgs e)
{
try
{
string claimNo = dgPayment.Rows[e.NewEditIndex].Cells[3].Text;
}
catch(Exception ex)
{
ex.Message.ToString();
}
}

I noticed you are doing it from _RowEditing. Are you trying to get the new value or the value the user is editing? I think you can access something like e.NewValue to get the new value, but that is only available from _RowUpdating as far as I am aware. I am still pretty new to gridview myself.

Thanks for your response. I am trying to get the value the user is editing or the current value not the new.

how you're filling the gridview, if you are filing it in load event then maake sure you write that in
if(!page.ispostback)
{
fill data grid here.
}
in that way you'll get the value.

Hi Everyone,
I'm new to ASP.NET and I am kind of stuck with a project that I am working on. I have 2 tables in my Access db, tblQuestions and tblResponses. For every question in the tblQuestions table, there are multiple responses. How do I pull the question's and include only the responses that are tied to that question (by QuestionId - Every response is tied back to the tblQuestions table by question Id).
Using VB.NET (NOT C#) as backend code
Example:
Question 1
Checkbox - Response 1
Checkbox - Response 2
Checkbox - Response 3
Question 2
Dropdown - Responses
Question 3
Radio - Response 1
Radio - Response 2
Radio - Response 3
I would really appriciate any help!
Thanks in Advance
