You didn't get what i said. You can TRY to call the function, but if there is no power to the monitor, the results you get back from the API are UNDEFINED. In that case, what does the data you get back, or lack of data, mean to your application?? There is no RELIABLE way to do this!

YES I did, if you know how, COULD YOU PLEASE write an small sample code to read the EDID. If you don't do it, won't be because lack of time, but just because you don't wanted to help OR you don't have the foggiest idea in how to do it.
I personally haven't do it because I DO NOT KNOW HOW TO DO IT (yet), that's why I asking for help in this forum.

Don't presume to tell me why I'm not going to do this. It IS because of time. I CAN do it. You just haven't given me the motivation to do it. Nor, at this point, are you ever going to succedd in doing so.
In 5 minutes, I get to drive an hour back to work to take care of problems that should have been solved by other people! Then, drive an hour back. It sucks being on call 24 hours a day...

Nature does it all the time, takes a lot of time though, but just look around you and EVERYTHING you see now ONCE upon a time was part of a nuclear explosion inside a star.

Nature doesn't build nuclear weapons. Nature creates giant fusion reactors.

Surely there is some kind of hardware do-hickey that could do this for you? I'm imagining there is something that plugs in-line with your monitor, monitors the flow of current to the monitor and reports back to the computer via a serial port or USB or some such.
[joking]Alternatively, hook up a webcam that watches the monitor and have a program sum up the total brightness of the display and trigger when the brightness suddenly increasing (because the power's back on). How's that for over engineering?[/joking]

Please don't cross post in several different forums, it is rude. Also, there is a job board you may want to post the opportunity on...

which should i do.
stay at my current company -
+ loads of new technology
+ lots of work.
- rubbish atmosphere (no one talks), no team spirit.
Or go back to my old place
+ much better atmosphere (very good team spirit)
+ been offered a LOT of money
- not got the track record for helping you to keep your skills up to date.
...old place may involve less .net and more java too. not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing.
can't decide whether to go for the money, or stay where i am.

There is always a third option and that is to find somewhere completely new.

Yeah that's true. But I'm lucky that both of these places are within 30 minutes drive of where I live. I'm so used to not having to commute that I'm restricting myself to being local, that way i spend more time with family.

Some good advice there. Thanks.

The good atmosphere and team spirit is very important in a job. Other things can change. And if you know the place and you get a lot of money. Where is the doubt?

Once in a while I run into a situation that really surprises me. Being on a job to install and configure a world leading scan and imaging application I was surprised about the built-in scripting tool available. The built-in scripting language is a rather old fashioned Basic derivate known under the name Softbridge Basic Language (SBL).
I had no choice. I needed to do some scripting in the Validation process of this product and no other tools available. SBL indeed was the delighted way to go. Not that I’m afraid of a little old fashioned coding. I have had my share of Assembler and Cobol coding in the past. One of the simple things I hade to do is some character replacement in strings. A Replace statement please?
Not. Definitely not. So once again I had to write one of my own. If you ever happen to collide with this world leading scan and imaging application then I have at least some code for you. Here it is:
function replacestring (source as string, _
search as string, repl as string) as string
'
' One VB6 Replace replacement
'
dim index as integer ' index in source
dim position as integer ' instr position in source
dim result as string ' build result here
'
index = 1
result = ""
do
position = instr (index, source, search)
if position > 0 then
result = result & mid$ (source, index, position - index) & repl
index = position + len (search)
else
result = result & mid$ (source, index)
end if
loop while position > 0
'
replacestring = result
end function

Here ya go:
Nothing special about your objective. Everyone elses is the same. If it doesn't stand out, nix it.
No reason to put your DOB or family status.
If Siemens is your current employer, listing that as your e-mail address might not be a good idea.
Your punctuation needs a lot of spit and polish.
If your hobbies and interests have nothing to do with the job you are seeking, remove.
What does Additional Info say about *you* that sets you apart from others?
You have an employment gap from April 2005 to April 2006. Some employers will ask, others won't notice. Be prepared to explain.

This is also a security vulnerability right?

It's more of a human resources issue. Employers in the U.S. are not supposed to ask age (DOB) or family status in an interview to prevent discrimination against (or for) a potential employee.

Surely the specifications and architecture documents will be different for each project?
