It will vary with every router and possibly software version in that router. And, don't be surprised if you have a lot of problems and it does not really work.

The newer the router, and the better the router, then the better chance that it will actually work.

IMHO, you may want to consider a high-end Linksys router. It could save you time. And, you may get more features.

Plus, do you need a DDNS? That's something to consider.
