Since this is no day to day job one most likely will forget how to do it after a few weeks...
Thanks for the link!

what's the fastest way to import fixed len file into sql table?
File is about 5 mil records

Use a bulk loader. Most database engines provide a dedicated program to do this.

As other responders have said, use the System.Data.SqlClient.SqlBulkCopy class.
Also, implement your own IDataReader in a class to read the file. The SqlBulkCopy contains a method called WriteToServer which has an overload that takes an IDataReader.
Once this is done, you can simply create an IDataReader using a TextReader (via the class you made) and now you can simply read a row and write the row without using a lot of memory with DataTable or DataSet objects.

Hi,
You have not mention is that one time or you have text feed in one folder.
Anyway, You can create one SSIS package that can import your file data into sql server. you can schedule your SSIS package if that file is frequently updating. even you can execute package from your Code behind. you can also use bulk insert as other suggested.

use a WCF service (WCF Application) and a PDA windows mobile 6.0 how can we draw the position marker on google maps in another project (application winforms).
Application uses winforms web browser to appear Gmap.
and implementation of WCF services hosted on an IIS server.
I have implemented the methods in the WCF service that will be called for by the PDA and returned the postion of GPS (latitude and longitude) until here everything is fine, but I do not know how to get back this position in application winforms for to draw marker
From your description, it sounds as though you're getting your geolocation back from the WCF service. If you are, you should realise that what you are getting is the location of the machine that hosts the service (providing it has the ability to get the geolocation) and not your PDA.
yes I can access the server that hosts the WCF service
service that contains two methods:
public double getLatitude(double latitude)
{
return latitude;
}
public double getLongitue(double longitude)
{
return longitude;
}
but the back office side (application winforms): I can not get the result returned by this 2 function,
for use the results returned to draw the marker on gmap (with web browser)
I'm confused here. You're sending a value to your WCF service and then you're retrieving the same value? What's the point of that?
Yes, I want to retrieve the same values using a marker to draw on google maps.
I can not find a way (on the application of winforms) to retrieve this same values that returned by the methods
Let me see if I've got your architecture straight. You have a PDA that you are using to send values to a WCF service. You have a Windows Forms application running somewhere else that you want to retrieve these same values and display them. Is this correct?
yes, winforms application is apart, it can just connect to the service
Then your initial premise is wrong. You can't pass a value in from one side and expect the same value to be available at the other side without doing some work. What you could do is write the value to a database at the server, and read it from there using a separate WCF call.

Thank you for your help Pete O'Hanlon

Not a problem. There are many ways you could architect this - from using MSMQ over WCF to hosting the WCF server inside your Windows Forms application and having your PDF connect to that.

I used below regular experssion to Not allow double quotes in textbox but it didn't work .
(I need to allow single quotes)
<asp:RegularExpressionValidator ID="rwvFilter" runat="server" ControlToValidate="txtFilter"
ErrorMessage="Filter is not valid" CssClass="error-message" ValidationExpression="@\\""></asp:RegularExpressionValidator>

Our IT, a very elaborate production environment, is rather involved and I'm try to write a GUI front end that will help visualize the layout and help in troubleshooting.
For remote consoles were using VNC, and it can be spawned from inside an application. But this does not appear to be the same case with Microsoft Management Console(MMC). How can I spawn a remote console to any server and get the GUI that I would get in MMC. Any direction would great. Technologies I may be missing etc. Thanks guys.

This question doesn't make sense.
VNC will show you the remote desktop, NOT a single application. Sooooo you would just need to launch the MMC on the remote desktop and you'll see it. All it takes is a couple of mouse clicks on the remote machine.
...or am I missing something?
For what you're talking about, we just use Terminals[^] and launch the MMC we want in the Start/Run box.

Hello Gregg,
MMC is just a kind of Plattform. The Connection you want to do is not in the MMC, it is part of the Plugin what you load to your MMC.
You can add for example the Plugin in for DHCP Management and while you add them, you can deceide, what server you want to connect with. Afterwards you can save this settings as "DHCPonMyServer.msc" file.
If you want to run this Plugin on this server again, just run the MMC with this file as parameter.
You can also add more than one Plugin to an MMC so you can create an individual MMC File for each of your server.
