I have this weird problem that i can not seem to solve. I am playing a video in full screen mode using elecard player. After logging into the PC playing the video with VNC. The video does not seem to wanna play in full screen mode again. It opens in full screen mode but changess to smaller window in few seconds. Any help would be great. I am thinking it could be the video card drives. Possibly a problem with .Net 2.0 but, i am really not sure where to look anymore.

I'm trying to get my head around the mechanics of Install / Uninstall in the setup project. It seems to me that Installing a new project will uninstall the previous version completely, and install the new version.
This is a real pain as i only want to update the application, and would really like to do it without removing all the existing files that are installed, and without prompting the user to choose where to install the application again.
I can't figure out a way around this besides using an external install builder, and i'd really like to avoid that if possible.

On individual files in Setup projects there is a "Permanent" property that specifies whether or not a file is to be removed when an application is uninstalled, not sure if this helps you or not.
If you're only looking to update some specific files perhaps you can create another setup project that does only that?
To avoid prompting for an installation directory twice, write the path to the registry when the original program is initially installed using a custom installer action. Your update could pick it up from there, and know where to copy the updated files.

If I'm understanding you right, you are trying to get rid of the dialog that pops up telling the user to uninstall the existing version before installing this version.
If thats right, I had a similar problem not to long ago. The solution is simple just increment the version number on your installer and make sure the following properties are set on your Setup project;
- DetectNewerInstalledVersion = true
- RemovePreviousVersions = true
As far as the removing files that are in the directory, like Jack suggested, if you are installing the files and you want them to remain, flag them as Permanent. If the files are created from your app, such as backups or error logs, when you uninstall the application it will leave those files there by default.
If at first you don't succeed ... post it on The Code Project and Pray.

Hi,
AFAIK you can install all VS versions next to each other; I have two regularly, never wanted more. There are two potential problems:
1. the one installed last will steal the file association, so double-clicking say a .cs file will open that VS version.
2. newer versions tend to convert project files to newer formats that older versions do not understand, so you will have to keep the projects well apart.

2005 and 2008 run fine together so I'd assume that if 2003 works along side 2005 then adding 2008 should be fine.

I have all three on my system. As I installed them when they were released (approximately), they were installed oldest-first, which is what I recommend you to do.

Maybe you could develop a text analyzer that rejects all text speak?

I have a web service in ASP.Net (C#) doing COM interop with a C++ COM component.
After adding and removing the reference to COM many times, the data I get is old data.
I believe the data is being cached somewhere.
Any way to get over this?

What sort of "data" do you mean? I assume since you're talking about a COM object that it just looks like an incorrect version in some way.
Is it possible that you're actually picking up a different version of the DLL at runtime? Perhaps it's picking up the old one left in the application directory instead of the new one you're actually trying to reference? Try checking the locations in the PATH variable that contain incorrect versions of the DLL and get rid of them.
Is it a Serviced component? Are you maybe picking up an older object from an object pool? I'm not even sure if this is possible, just an idea...

I've got a custom installer, and I'd like to unwind it gracefully if certain situations in the custom installer are met.
I've experimented with throwing exceptions, but haven't really found a clean way to wind it back to the uninstalled state. The message says "An exception occured on install and it will continue." and then unwinds it, which is a real pain.
Is there any way to just get the installer to switch to rollback mode?
Regards
Tris

Hi,
I want to write a databound usercontrol that shows/edits/updates records just like datagrid or listview. But i dont want to use those controls. What i want to do is creating single cards for every single records in the datatable. I mean one control for each.
When i create a usercontrol to do this, it only shows one record at a time. I am not sure bot i think it is called "business objects" ?
Please help.
Thanks in advance.
