Hi All,
I work on a web application that has Excel and Word documents in it.
At the moment when a user opens these documents in IE9 they get presented with a dialog box asking:
What do you want to do with "filename"?
The user is presented with Open, Save and Save As as the options.
Unlike previous versions of IE there is no check box to tick to remember the user's choice so it comes up every time.
I really need to get rid to this box. Does anyone know how to disable it?
Thanks
Tom
Cheers

OK this turned out to be very simple but I thought I'd publish the fix any way.
Basically, despite the fact that IE 9 doesn't have the check box previous versions of IE have that enables you to save your decission of what to do with a file of a particular type it doesn't mean it doesn't check the registry to see if an old choice (from a previous browser) isn't stored there. So the fix is to replicate the storage of a previous version of IE into the registry of the machine on which IE 9 is running. In my case it went as follows:
If it's not there already create the following key path in the registry:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\AttachmentExecute\{0002DF01-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}
Inside the InternetExplorer.Application GUID key create a list of binary values using the COM name of the document opening application as a title.
In my case (Office 2003):
Excel.Sheet.8
PowerPoint.Show.8
Word.Document.8
If the values are 0000 the the application will open without asking the user.
Cheers

you can try IFrame to show word or Excel document.

Iframes are done on the server side. They have NOTHING to do with this question.

I could experiment, but the propagation time makes that a pain..
I have a WebSite - Domain: MySite.com that is hosted on HostA
Name server ns1.hosta.com
ns2.hosta.com
I also have another site - TempSite.com that is hosted on HostB
Name server ns1.hostb.com
ns2.hostb.com
I want to have the web domain mySite.com to point to the site on HostB. The TempSite.com domain will be parked and the content of the site on HostA will be retired.
Which name server do I change? Are there any other considerations?
<Answer: Create a new website on hostb with the domain name required (MtSite.com), change the name servers on hostA to those supplied by hostB - Bada Bing.>

I'm curious as to which is considered better accessibility design: tailoring your page layout to work with newer zoom abilities (which effectively resizes pixels, making everything on the page -- text, graphics, frames, etc. -- larger or smaller) or to stay with the older text resizing design (which resizes font size while leaving other objects on the page unchanged)?

You have a lot of things to read before you can get to that point.
I would start by going through http://www.silverlight.net/learn/quickstarts/audioandvideo/[^].
If you go up a few levels in the site you can see other video tutorials and helpful information. This is usually how I start. Try visiting the product page of the product you want to work with and then go from there. The "learn" tab or the "get started" tab are very helpful.
http://www.silverlight.net/[^] is the base website for all the silverlight information.

I've seen some websites have background images that don't scroll with the page, but rather remain fixed.
How is that done?

I don't know, however to find out, I would suggest you view the HTML source code that does it for a page of your choice.
And then, there is always uncle know-it-all[^].

say I have a page with lots of data entered by the user. are there math javascript libraries out there that could do complicated computations accessing the local processor so it doesn't involve a postback?

One would suppose so. I typed 'javascript math library' into google and there were wasn't very much - only 10,100,000 results.
Though I'm too lazy to check any of them. Did you find anything when you checked google?

Hi all,
I've a html page with an image. Click on it another page is popup (jQuery thickbox) and works fine. But I want to pass two arrays to the popup page and work on. How can I do that. Is it possible to call a function in child page from the parent page?
I tried to pass values as URL parameters, but it leads lots of manipulations to achieve.
Thanks
I appreciate your help all the time...

Hi.
I´ve created several web pages, that makes use of HTML injection. That means a script on a web page that calls a web service, gets html code returned, and the script then injects the html code in a div somewhere.
This solution avoids postbacks, returns data faster back to the end-user and creates a more smooth web experience.
But what are the downsides of html injection? The only thing I can think of, is that code maintainance gets harder as the project gets larger..
Thanks for your thoughts.
Kind regards,
Lars

Actually that is the only part I don't agree with. The webservice should indeed not return HTML but rather raw (JSON) data. Encapsulate the javascript that generates the HTML (from your data) into sparate classes, that way you keep your webservices uncontaminated from GUI/UI stuff.
The code for the HTML generation can be reused and maintained separately.
My two cents.
