Neither necessarily is any information you see in forums. I looked at MSDN documentation and what it says is that if the IIS is remote, it has to support Front Page Extensions. That's probably where Imar got his information, but it appears to be irrelevant to what he's telling his readers to do. Nowhere in his book does he entertain the notion that the reader might be interested in using the local IIS.
Of course MSDN isn't always correct either. The only way you know what is stated in a book, forum, or MSDN is true or not is to try it out and see what happens. So I tried out what you suggest and I wound up with a Web Site (no project file), not a Web Application (which has a project file and delivers an assembly, not .cs files). So you're not answering my question.
The other poster in this thread claims to be providing an answer for me, but it requires researching other posts he's made. When I get out from under what I'm currently doing (making my way through the second chapter of the Imar book), I'll look into his answer and hope he provides the answer I'm looking for.
One of the "problems" with the Imar book is that 95% of the book (all but the last chapter) assumes you're using a Web Site (not a Web Application) and the Web server built into Visual Studio (not IIS), so for my needs it has two strikes against it, but it provides all the basics which I need to get straight in my head.

Well, all this mucking around did enable me to figure out how to accomplish what I originally asked: how to use the local IIS to host a Web Application project. I document that in my original post. So thanks anyhow, for prompting me to keep digging away for the answer, which I had in my back pocket all along without realizing it.

Is there a way to duplicate or recreate the auto ellipses feature used in C# so that it can be used on a Web Page using the ASP.Net format. If not, is there an alternate technique that is available that does the same thing, such as a div, panel or whatever?. I will use Java if I have to, but only if there is no other way. Thank you, Pat

AFAIK the auto ellipses property is not supported in ASP.NET. This[^] article may point you to a solution using CSS though, if that's any good to you. You may want to test this against different browsers though...

Thank you for our reply. I appreciate the time you took to research this issue. I looked at the link you provided. Unfortunately, it does not provide me with a workable solution for this problem...so I guess I am stuck with Java for now.. ... However, it did show me how to resolve another issue that I have confronted in the past, namely how to create an Ellipses in a Data Grid. So, thank you for that. In so far as telling me that there is no answer is the same as giving a correct answer, I am marking this issue as Answered. Best Regards, Pat

I have a GridView that utilizes two hidden columns. I initially tried to hide the columns using visible=False on the BoundField but that did not work because I could not retreive the values of the cells. I chose to use a cssClass to set the visibility:hidden for each hidden column and it worked. The problem is that the border around the gridview still contains empty space for the hidden columns. How do I remove the empty space from the GridView while still maintaining the hidden columns?

Early yesterday, the following validation notice was working correctly. Hi,
My requirement is to dynamically create an ExcelSheet from dataset with two sheets as binding table[0] to Sheet1 and table[1] to Sheet2.
I have tried with Interop.Office.Excel,it throws "Cannot access the file" error.

There is no cross compliant direct equivalent of window.openPopup() method. Its IE only.
If you want to emulate the behavior of 'window.openPopup()', use 'window.open()' along with any 3rd party Javascript Drag and Drop (D&D) API.

Hi,
I have a number of reports, one for each question on a questionnaire. They're all supposed to be pie charts and show the results as a "Yes"/"No" split.
Rather than write a separate report for each question, I'd like to create one report called (for example), "generic.rdlc". I would then load this report and dynamically set a data-source to it. All I'd then have to do is change or set the column name to report on.
Can anyone suggest a way of doing this?
The report .rdlc format appears to be a basic XML file and I can find where to set the column, so I guess I could write the column name to the file before I load it. Is that really the best way to do it though? Is there not an API method I can use to "poke" a value into the report?
Incidentally, I'd also like to set the name of the report so I can title it appropriately - again, surely I shouldn't have to write this value to the report file directly?

Hi there guys.
Background:
Im currently developing a website that displays data retrieved from MS SQL Server on a chart with MS Charts. The data stored in MS SQL Server table is a temperature measurement taken every second. Every thing works fine. As long as i dont exceed 1 hour of data points. Well up to 4 hours sometimes work as well. But as sson as I increase the range of datapoints to display on the chart(using fastline series) it takes forever and even sometimes times out.(Im using Microsoft Visual Basic 2008(C#) ASP.NET and MS Charts)
Question:
1.Is there another chart application that handles large amounts of data beter.
There is several available but I cant say which will handle large data quantities beter.
(and this is for a University final year project so the budget is very tight)
2.Is there a way to maybe speed up MS charts.
3.And finally I even tried to filter my SQL query to return only every 60th row which I dont mind on say a 12 hour chart. But I cant seem to find any solution to return every nth row that works.

Thanx. I figured that would be the best. Building a custom query to select only every 60th row. Could just not find a good solution to such a query.
Current solution that ive got that is working is creating an empty data table and then using a for statement to select a specific row and appending it to the datatable with the row identifier as the for counter multiplied by 60 or whatever the case may be until the spesified date or time is reached. Thus creating a table with the relevant time span but only selected values.(thus painting the chart is much faster due to less values)
This works fine just feels cumbersome and sloppy. Well thanks so far.
