I must say here in the Netherlands business is still very good although big companies have trouble sending out their consultants to clients as their skill rates are below average. This is because most real professionals start their own company (going freelance).
As for me I prognosed a 30% grow for my company and even think to hire people through the net for projects. My public profile on linkedin[^]

The last quarter we made 25% redundant. This year its down to a 4 day week. The heatings turn down. we've lost a wharehouse. Travel has been suspended. No Christmas bonus. No pay rise. Its cold and starting to snow. The £ is almost the same as the euro. My mortgage hasn't gone down but the value of my house has. But at least I'm still working for the moment.
Why is it when you are busy everyone whats it yesterday, But when your not no-one has any work for you?

I'm a developer, and i live in Boston. I happen to know at least 2 long-term clients of ours has increased their budge for us... however even if i did need to find a new job, it would only take me a week or so. I'm really not worried even in this market.

Why don't you take R50-00 and move to Zimbabwe and sell it on the black market, then you will be an instant millionaire.

He has a good common sense, that will help him.
A lot of bride and high qualified people in the banks ruined the american economy.

It is very easy to point the finger at the government or at banks, but people fail to blame themselves.
If people would pay off their credit card bill every month, stop eating out for lunch and dinner every day and only buy things they can afford, then they would have more money and not be in such debt.
I'm being very general in my comment.

Didnt the banks make stellar losses but the managers und investmentbankers got hugh bonuses? And now the taypayer should help out with the TARP.
In my home country Germany our goverment spents around 50 Billions Euro for the troubled banks, but to help "Opel" (the german subsidary of GM) with 1 Billion Euro they discuss as chickens. And the small business peoples says: "No one helps us".
PS: I blame people for electing such politicians

if you say that 'the world' is the US then maybe that's correct.
Europe has some issues but I think we got to thank the US for that

True. At least the bad scary politics would come under control. I am voting a '5' for you.

So I'm still waiting to be paid for work I did, stupidly I also loaned the company money to pay a colleague as I expected to get paid back when the money came in for a job I was working on.
My wife and daughter live in Taiwan, and I'm here in Australia looking for some short term work so that I can take some money back to them.
I'm hoping for the best, but not expecting it.

Why did you lent to the company ? If your colleague needed the money, you could have lent it to him directly. That way at least there is a better chance to get your money back from your friend even if the company goes bankrupt.
|
|
|
|
|
The colleague wasn't a friend. The company was quite late in paying him. I just didn't want the company getting into trouble before I finished the job I was on, as I didn't want to see my hard earned money get used up on legal fees or something.

The present situation is not very promising..
But I think the situation will change in a quarter or two. It always takes some to time to recover from global depression. Hopefully the booming times come again

If not the booming time, at least, everyone should be ensured the basic bread and butter (the fundamental survival strategy).
