From a development point of view, giving (or selling) Apple to Google would eventually mean having 1 less mobile platform to support. Thus meaning less pain for developers.

That being I couldn't give an 's turd what apple does.
Oh - wait - another good answer would be: they just stop making the overpriced turds.
(the choices are so useless I didn't pick any - five precious rep points left on the table)

Have an upvote to compensate for the missing 5 points - even if I disagree with you.
Apple products are really useful: they indicate to the casual observer the people who really will buy any old tat if you market it right.

That's been know by merchants for eons - consider the Snake Oil salesmen. So I give you some agreement.
There's also the factors that (1) it's expensive so it must be the best, (2) they can afford to spend waste a lot of money on and I want all the world to see, and (3) they just a compelling need to belong to something - anything - and have "iphone" appended to their emails makes them feel part of something.
Am I just loquaciously agreeing some more?

It doesn't affect me, because I don't do anything near Apple.

Just wanted to write exactly the same.
Very few people left here in my country developing for apple/iOS.
Most do platform independant frameworks anyway and I am quite sure, Xamarin&Co will be ready and set up when this happens... The big companies will talk to each other.
But on the other side - someone wrote "give the company to google" --- it looks like they surrender anyway... Now with iOS getting the ability to finally (only 12 years after google - that's lightning fast for apple terms) remove apps from the desktop and they even get widgets... wow... not much longer and they might arive in 21st century!

Do they need to worry? After all, it is HTML, CSS, JavaScript, with server side code (JavaScript, Python, PHP, etc.).

Beware!
They might just redo their browser so it works with a different system. Apple users, being the suckers that they are, will just placidly accept the incompatibility.
Meanwhile, apple will charges developers by the page to build a website - that meets there usual strict standards, which is to say, means they get paid.

If I codes for Apple hardware, I'd really want both "Give us developers lots of lead time and help before the change comes" and "Provide tools that port my code automatically"

... sorry for all those macbook users, Apple has shown time and time again it does not care for anything other than Apple and it's margins.
