I find time to be the lamest excuse ever.
Even "The dog cat ate my Xamarin" would've been better.
There's always time, unless it somehow magically stopped for you.
There's time now, but are you doing Xamarin? Nope, you're reading posts about how lame your excuse is on CP!
It's all about priorities and not having "the time" is just a lame way of saying "it's not really on top of my priority list (or even probably somewhere in the top 10)"
That said, I plan to take a look at Xamarin when we get 30 hours day

I have "bits" of time, but I don't have "chunks" of time - and I need to have enough to concentrate properly. And Herself is off sick still, so she's watching TV (quite loud as she's a little deaf) and shouting at the programs. And me, when she can't do something on her tablet. All rather distracting, really. All I want is a little peace and quiet to get on with things...
Bad command or file name. Bad, bad command! Sit! Stay! Staaaay...

OriginalGriff wrote: so she's watching TV The answer to this is a hearing aid (once you get over the vanity factor), although headphones work pretty well too. The downside with headphones (at least in the case of my dad) is that they increase hearing loss, because the wearer tends to crank up the volume which damages the hearing mechanism even more.

Laundry, house repairments, grocery, cooking, keeping the house clean, paying bills and managing bureaucracy. That requires a hell lot of time leaving only bits of 30mins - 1 hour (when lucky) free, and all of those are ordinary. Illnesses, accidents and unpredictable events suck a lot more time.
Added with commuting ang long work shifts it means arriving home with the bare minimum energy to keep functioning enough after dinner to digest before jumping in bed.

Yeah, I know. I'm in the same situation (well, only a few minutes commute, but I've got a house and everything).
I'm just saying "no time" is a weak argument to not do something you want.
Let's be honest, when you need new clothes you suddenly find time to go clothes shopping. When you like a nice dinner you suddenly find time to go out for dinner and perhaps see a movie afterwards.
Even when you have "no time" most people still find time to do the things they like (shopping, sports, other hobbies).
So are you really out of time? No, you simply prefer Netflix, working out, or your stamp collection over Xamarin in the time you do have
I'm not blaming anyone, I just think "no time" is one of the most used empty and misleading statements ever and if you say such a thing you should ask yourself "do I really want this and, if yes, what activity I do now am I going to drop or do less?" If the answer to the second question is "I don't want to drop activities or do them less" you don't want the first thing enough.
"No time" is also a nice way of blowing people off.
"Are you coming to my birthday on Saturday?" "Sorry, no time (I like my model trains more than you)"

I guess I may be an extreme case but still...

I just finished the xamarin university course. I had been watching mono for a few years and a few other mobile Dev solutions - testing them and never found the right stuff. Last year xamarin seemed to be mature enough and I took the leap and I was not disappointed. These are serious developers who have approached the two mobile platforms with the respect they both deserve putting serious brain sweat into their approach. It's all available online to look at so I won't get into the details. If you are already an iOS or droid developer I agree it may not be enough to pull you out of your tool and skill set – but for a.net developer not wanting to learn java and swift in order to make mobile apps it's a slam dunk.
