It was the whole idea: whirring tape decks; piles of punch cards; serious looking people in glasses smoking, and looking at printouts.
It was clear that this was indoor work, with no heavy lifting. I wanted in!
It was 5 or so years after that that I "met" my first computer (ICL 1902 running GEORGE III) at university and was taught my first computer language: COBOL.
I suspect that if COBOL had been taught when I first found out computers even existed, I'd have gone into a different career altogether...
Bad command or file name. Bad, bad command! Sit! Stay! Staaaay...

That's basically it but some years later
I came to know about computers because my neighbor got one got his birthday. I was around 8 at the time and the machine was a ZX Spectrum +[^].
One year later, and due to my instant fascination for the thing, my mother bought me what came to be my first computer and where I wrote my first lines of code: Timex 2048[^].
And all this was roughly 30 years ago... I'm old!

It wasn't a language for me either.
I'd only worked on dumb terminals, as PCs were still on the way. I was doing a secretarial course and heard other students talking about making an circle move across the screen.
You could TELL computers what to do?!! I was fascinated. Swapped out my "Business Documentation" module for the programming module, about a day's worth of QBasic, and was hooked. Later I did a programming course and met the love of my life, C.

I was attracted towards programming due to UI, I have seen Visual basic in 2009 first time, it is a third-generation event-driven programming language and integrated development environment (IDE) by Microsoft.
Before that I was try to code with C, BASIC, PASCAL but due to Black IDE it is not so attractive But VB made me PROGRAMMER/DEVELOPER
I think here Option missing ..Event driven
Vote for VB

So much complexity in software comes from trying to make one thing do two things.

on one of these[^] for the first year of my programming career.
Boss would come around occasionally and collect 5-1/4 floppy disks from me and the other developer and put them on his 5MB hard drive and build the product and when he started it up sounded like a space ship, we could hear it in the next room.
Ah the old days!

My goal in life is to have a psychiatric disorder named after me.
I'm currently unsupervised, I know it freaks me out too but the possibilities are endless.

Glad to see some real programmers still around in this age of JavaScript frameworks.
